| Between 1964 and 1976 Warminster was haunted by mysterious craft which became known to the locals as 'The Thing' By 1966 hundreds had seen The Thing and thousands had gathered on the hills hoping for a sighting of their own. This site tells the story of our attempts to find out just what happened in Warminster 40 years ago, and the story of our attempts to see "The Thing" for ourselves. We visit the town, spend nights on the hills - and the mystery deepens. Why are the locals so tight lipped about The Thing? Why does Tourist Information show us the door when we ask "what was the Warminster Thing? And who is the mystery caller - the former government worker who encounters The Thing? - seems to know our every move, and simultaneously eggs us on and warns us off? The Warminster Thing is a film in 3 parts. Parts 1 and 2 are now complete, part 3 will be finished by Dec 2007 ... hopefully. For more about the film see my blog. Stuff about me etc - Worked since 1995 for the BBC - for Radio Bristol, Radio 4 and Radio 3 and now mainly for BBC 4. In previous existence had day job as gardener/builder and night job as guitarist in two "critically acclaimed ... but unfortunately also massively unsucessful" bands - Beat Pump and The McAllisters, my other night job then was running clubs with friends featuring "pneumatic drill top 20" bands such as Loop, World Domination Enterprises and UT. As gardening bones tired did Politics degree then began but could not get funding for Ph D. Now family, work and making our little film outside work with friends keeps me busy enough ...This site contains theories about history, politics, science and economics which are outside the maimstream. It is obviously not possible to test every thesis - but I do think it is importnat that people are able to access as many viewpoints as possible in a healthy democracy. Also I think we should never forget that all advances socially, scientifically and politically have come from the margins never the centre. | |
