| Jozev Castano Add to My Profile | More Videos Jozev Castaño Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, Jozev was introduced to music by a Spanish guitarist, his beloved uncle Alexandro. At the tender age of eight, young Jozev caught the “guitar-playing bug” and began to emulate the styles of the great Blues and Rock musicians like Stevie Ray Vaughn, etc. With his sustained sound and tone, the greate Carlos Santana inspired young Jozev to develop a style full of passion and love for his chosen instrument. He began to play and lead various bands in San Antonio and Austin where the seeds of his unique style were sown. Castaño;s unique style consists of a warm tone, a strong vibrato combined with a melodic guitar voice, and a quick rhythmic “picking” hand. His Latin-American roots also contribute to his style as it finds its way into all aspects of his playing. Jozev is well versed in the acoustic, flamenco, and bass guitars, as he is in the electric. Having attended Berklee College of Music, Southwest Institute of Technology, and U.T.S.A. where studies included engineering, composition and music theory, Castaño toured with teckno-funk De Barge, the Silvers, Switch and Chad. In the commercial jazz sector, he toured with Gino Vanilli and the Pyramid Jazz Band. As a session player, he performed with Lou Rawls, Larry Hart, Marilyn McCoo, Peabo Bryson and Lola Falana. As an artist Jozev has enjoyed his travels to South America, Mexico, Canada, all of the United States, South Korea, all of Japan, Paipei, Singapore, and Thailand. As a songwriter/producer, Jozev is busy on his second CD. It is a Latin-Blues Mix of original songs, incorporating Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms which create a highly danceable CD, full of his passionate guitar style. When presenting his original pieces, Jozev leads his band “Castaño”, performing the States and Internationally. For the past two years, he has also been the musical director of the Upfront Band which, led by Julieta Elliott, performs at casino cabaret lounges, showrooms, corporate events, and cruise ships. After receiving lessons from him it seems that he is an instructor that you are not able to replace. These students have had the opportunity to perform on stage in front a live audience. Some of his students have formed their own bands and have been able to book shows on their own. Learning from him has also given them knowledge and confidence to be able to perform at any age regardless of how young they are. Jozev's students that are in the band Black Electricity will be performing at D.A.R.E. Day May 5th. Some of his other students will be joining Black Electricity at this show.
