Twilight Son Films Presents a film by Nathaniel Hunt The Warm Light Of The Sun Director's Statement I have always been haunted by memory. I can't help but think that there is a strong relationship between what we remember and our dreams and aspirations for the future. I am perpetually inspired by individuals who are capable of grappling with past emotional devastation while still maintaining a sense of hope and optimism about the future. For me cinema is the perfect means through which to explore this dynamic. What do we remember ? Is it true ? How can we overcome the fear of intimacy when emotional scars linger ? We want so badly to be open, to find real intimacy but we are always fighting our own vulnerability and the tendency to become too jaded or defensive to appreciate what we want most. It is with this in mind that I find myself perpetually obsessing over the everyday heroism of ordinary people struggling to get out of bed and face the day despite feeling disconnected, unloved and overmatched by life. Somehow they find the strength to persist in hopes of finding in their lives, for even a few moments, a sense of purpose and a state of belonging. The Warm Light of the Sun, through fragmented scenes that evoke the perceptions of the main characters and their remembrances, explores this landscape of memory and emotion. The film is a series of cinematic daydreams where a sea change is forming out of the shadows of memories and desires that will gradually wear away the walls of fear. This film was written as a tribute to memories of tender people and to the places where I grew up, and as an honest attempt to make something beautiful about love. It is my hope that The Warm Light of the Sun somehow finds it's way into at least a few hearts and for a moment or two resonates there. Synopsis The Warm Light Of The Sun tells the story of one summer in the countryside and how two people who have struggled with the concept of love find a way to allow themselves to trust again. During the long, languid days of summer, Bill spends much of his time helping his elderly neighbor Matty in tending to his garden. As the weeks go by and they become closer, they both reminisce about their lives, loves, and losses. When Melissa, Matty's granddaughter arrives to celebrate his 75th birthday, many painful scars are exposed, and a newfound understanding between them is eventually forged, as she questions him about her mother, his late daughter. Despite their pain by being abandoned in the past by people they have loved, Bill and Melissa find a closeness that is as warm as it is unexpected. After a day spent frolicking on the beach, Bill and Melissa wander along the edge of the blue water that stretches out to the horizon where - - as Bill ponders what is truly important in life - - the sun is slowly setting. He acted in several major motion pictures (including "Reversal Of Fortune", "Billy Bathgate", and "Born On The Fourth Of July") but soon changed his focus to writing and directing for the theatre. He was a founding member and director and playwright in residence at The Tribeca Lab Theatre in New York City. Nathaniel is a self-taught filmmaker and photographer. "The Warm Light Of The Sun" is his debut feature length film. He previously directed numerous short films including "Wave", and "Les Noctambules". He has shown his photographs in numerous galleries worlwide, as well as having them published in numerous magazines. Nathaniel's grandmother passed away just prior to his final edit of the film. He thinks of her every day and her spirit infuses every film of this film. He misses many people and places and times deeply and continues to make films and photographs in an effort to capture and express the indefinable feeling that those memories evoke.
