| Howdy! I'm Jackson Hole. In case you don't know I'm a small town located in Northwestern Wyoming. Close by there is Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone which is a short and scenic drive from here. Here is some breif and interesting history about me: Before 1800 the only people who had ever traveled to this area were the Native American Tribes who spent the summer months hunting and trapping wildlife in the valley. Famous mountain men who discovered Jackson Hole were Jim Bridger, Jedediah Smith, William Sublette, and David Jackson. It was David Jackson who gave his name to the valley when he supposedly spent the winter of 1829 on the shores of Jackson Lake. For the mountain men, a "hole" was a high valley that was surrounded by mountains, and William Sublette, who was Jackson 's partner in an early fur company, referred to the mountain valley along the Snake River as Jackson 's Hole. In the 1890's, cattle ranching became the major focus of the area, and with cattle ranching came a larger and more permanent settlement. The town of Jackson was named in 1894 and acquired a plan for streets and major buildings in 1900. As more people came to this place to live, Grand Teton National Park was soon created in 1929.
