| First of all I would like to say that anyone who has not seen it ought to buy "The Secret" DVD from their local bookstores or order it online. It is dramatically changing my attitude. Checks are coming in the mail, and I am itching to write songs out of joy, rather than desparation!I started singing in the car, harmonizing to the songs on the radio. I had no idea that harmonizing would be my "in" to singing.While in college, I had an artist friend from California, Melissa Baker. Mel was playing one of her originals for me, and stopped abruptly mid-song when hearing the harmony improv I was singing."You're singing with me" was all it took for me to be inspired to learn to play the guitar. I started to watch my friends play in 2000 and by 2001 I had written over twenty songs!In 2001 I recorded "The Black Notebook". Without any background music, but just my voice (harmonies included) and guitar and djembe, I was able to capture my determination to "do it for myself". I am a self-taught singer, drummer, and guitar player.The music is simple, anyone can hear that. But I just wanted a simple tune for all the words I had to say at that time.I took a break from the music to start a family. I have two boys, ages 3 and 1. Now that the little one is walking, it's a bit easier for him to listen to me play my guitar rather than want to be held most of the time.I am now in Tennessee again, and it feels GREAT! I found a place called the Acoustic Coffeehouse, and I just love it! It's a wonderful music venue for me. All originals on Tuesday nights has been dreamy! Life is picking up, and getting more and more fabulous every day. My dreams are truly coming true!! | |

Music:Member Since: 6/19/2006Band Website: this is as much effort as I can make at this time! Band Members: I play solo shows most of the time, and I don't practice! Ha! (I'm actually serious). My practice is on stage, and so far it's working for me. It's raw. It's real, and people can feel that, and relate.At my shows, I LOVE to showcase my other musician friends, and since I've been playing out more recently, I've been able to share some of my favorite artists with my fans. Influences: My Mom, Sesame Street, New Kids on the Block (ha ha), Boys II Men, Madonna, SIMON & GARFUNKEL, Patsy Cline, BOB DYLAN, TRACY CHAPMAN, Stevie Nicks, Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, COUNTING CROWS, RADIOHEAD, Tom Waits, Matt Dill, U2, Rolling Stones, Live, Sarah Mclaughlin, Katherine Barnica, Tom Petty, Violent Femmes, Melissa Baker Sounds Like: Gosh, I've heard so many things. It always seems others want to make you sound like someone they know, which is a compliment if they like the artist they are comparing you to. I've heard that I sound like Jewel, Stevie Nicks, Tori Amos, Sinead O'Connor, and many have compared my voice to Alanis Morissette. Who knows; who cares; I just like to sing!!
