I'd like to meet:welcome to the My page. My name is Big Gus, I was raised in La County, 100% Californian. I grew up in the streets drawing and writing on everything I saw until I realized I could make money off of this “HaHa.” I have been painting and drawing since I was a kid, airbrushing at 13 started tattooing at 14 and started tattooing professionally at 22 years of age out of Distinctive Ink tattoo in Pico Rivera. I am a fully self-taught artist, who studied and learned from watching others, I have been this way my whole life. Coming from having nothing this was the only way to teach myself these art techniques. Painting murals in the La riverbed, street corners and alleys helped out a lot. My mother also had a lot to do with my art skills for giving me a paintbrush and crayons and for not yelling at me when I wrote on the walls. I miss her dearly. I have traveled the world thanks to this wonderful industry and have seen so much great art and met so many great artists thanks to it. I have also learned the old school way of things in this industry thanks to friends such as Tony Olivas,Rick Walters, Catfish Carl, Tennessee Dave, Jack Rudy and so many others who have taught me that tradition and respect for each other is a dieing breed that us new generation of artist need to respect and keep such traditions alive. My favorite style of tattooing is fine-line and black/gray, photorealism. My major influences for this are Jack Rudy, Freddy Negrete, Tony Olivas,Pint, Juan Puente and of course bob tyrell,tom ranshaw,,there are too many to put down. I have won well over 100 awards for my work and also have been published many times for my work. I thrive on giving each customer a unique and custom experience with every tattoo. I also believe you must always keep yourself learning and teaching yourself. To see things in a different aspect than others, to be original in your own way .I worked so hard to get here, so many sacrifices were made to reach such a level of excellence and to also continue such a level of excellence. I have been blessed and lucky to be part of such an awesome family I call the tattoo world, what else can I ask for?enjoy the website thanks…….
