With a work ethic that is unsurpassed, a catalog that seems to grow by the day and undying support from fans around the world, Messy Marv(tm), now known to the world as The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm) is the true definition of the entrepreneurial spirit. A career that began over 13 years ago in 1995 has spawned more than 20 Album Releases, 350,000+ Units sold independently and well over 100 Guest Appearances on other albums and compilations.A product of San Francisco, California, The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm) was raised in the notorious Martin Luther King/Marcus Garvey Housing Projects on Eddy Street in the Fillmore District. He endured many of his own life’s hardships but was surrounded by the most thriving independent music scene in the country. In 1995 the streets saw the debut of Messy Marv with his first album which is now considered an underground classic.The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm) was the first artist to ever pay Oakland’s own Multi-Platinum superstar Keyshia Cole to sing on a track. Taking a chance on the young singer, Mess added her passionate pain filled vocals to his single “Nubian Queen” and her history is still being written today.There have been many other great accomplishments in the 13+ year career of The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm). He was twice a winner at the 2006 2nd Annual B.A.R.S. (Bay Area Rap Scene) Awards, taking home trophies for Best Collaboration Album for his group project with fellow San Francisco heavyweight Guce on Bullys Wit Fullys 3 The Infrastructure, and also the 2006 Boss Of The Bay, an award given “for outstanding contribution and dedication to the game and being the biggest in the region.” In 2008 he took home the award for Best West Coast Artist Of The Year at the West Coast Hip-Hip Awards.Over the years The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm) has also landed the covers of several well known publications including Murder Dog Magazine, Ozone Magazine, Showcase Magazine, Xplosive Magazine, Hoodstar Magazine, Stash Magazine and has also appeared in XXL Magazine, The Source Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle and The San Francisco Bay Guardian. His highly touted 2004 release DisoBayish which hit radio hard with a trio of singles in “Hypnotic”, “Baby” and “That’s What’s Up!” landed on Billboard and peeked at 49 on the Top Independent Albums chart and 76 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. He has also hit the Billboard charts with 3 of his other albums released to date. The video to the critically acclaimed smash single “So Hood” featuring Clyde Carson from the aforementioned Bullys Wit Fullys 3 album received national attention and heavy rotation on MTV’s urban station MTV Jams. The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm)’ 2005 single “Get On My Hype” was also included on the TVT Records Hyphy Hitz Compilation Album. Although he always maintained his allegiance to the streets and to the gangsta side of music, the two previously mentioned singles were both staples and at the forefront of the Bay Area’s recent national craze The Hyphy Movement.One does not achieve the success The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm) has without drive, determination and hard work. Some claim to hustle, but he is the definition of the grind, putting out album after album after album. He has taken the Bay Area independent hustle that was born and bred into him, and pushed it further than anyone has before.Not one to just sit in the studio and make albums however, The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm) hits the road and brands himself and his music nationwide and worldwide, unwilling to allow the lack of a major backing to derail his movement. Through mutual respect, networking and hustle he has accumulated a collaborative resume that would make even major label artists jealous. Having worked with Grammy Award Winners Chamillionaire and Killer Mike, as well as Multi-Platinum international superstars Keyshia Cole, Too $hort, Tony Toni Tone, E-40, 112, funk legend George Clinton, David Banner, Mike Jones, Redman, Lil’ Flip, Ice T, Master P, Tha Dogg Pound, 2Pac’s Outlawz, Sean Paul of the YoungBloodz, Dead Prez, Pastor Troy and current J Records artist J. Today he owns and operates his own labels Click Clack Records(tm) and Scalen LLC(tm), which roster boasts the talent of not only himself, but multi-talented sensation Lil Pops, Kev Kelley and The ClickClackGang(tm). Under the Scalen imprint is also a Films Division - Scalen Films, a Clothing Line - Scalen Clothing and a Dog Kennel - The Bully Line Pitbull Kennel. In hopes of bringing positivity back to the community in which he loves, The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm) established the Scalen Foundation in 2005. In an effort to connect with at risk youth, the Foundation was created to provide constructive activities to help improve their lives and overcome some of their hardships. It also partners with and supports the efforts of other organizations in the community that work directly with the youth. Another effort The Boy Boy Young Mess(tm) has put forth in hopes of creating peace in his warring Fillmoe neighborhood, he has released two separate Compilation Albums called Fillmoe Nation. The projects featured up and coming talent from the two sides of the neighborhood, in hopes of bridging the gap.As the classic story goes for any young minority who has struggled to make it out of a rough background, there are going to be setbacks and ups and downs, but the key is to learn from your mistakes along the way, get stronger and push harder.
