About Me
RomÃ¡n Gil is a musician and guitar player from Barcelona. Years ago -around 1988, he discovered "Are you experienced" and fell in love with Jimi so he wanted to play guitar. And so he did and played with several bands. "The idiots" was his first one with his friends and classmates Anton, Marc and Eduard. "Apple Starking" did covers by Cream, Allman Brothers, Hendrix, Canned Heat. "Apple Band" was a Beatles covers' band. He did lots of gigs with these two bands around Barcelona circa 1992-1996. In 1997-98 he joined the late Parkinson D.C., one of the greatest bands in Barcelona ever. The band did their last spanish tour in 1998 and disbanded soon after. Maybe because he's always been a Bowie fan, RomÃ¡n wanted to be a composer of songs and when he discovered Brian Wilson's music around 1993 it was clear that this was his quest. Some time ago he decided to work as a solo artist doing all the recording process by his own at his home studio. RomÃ¡n proudly presents here at myspace some of the songs of this first solo effort called Via lÃ¡ctea, published by Manlay Recording on december 6th 2007 on-line and officially at spanish shops on december 21th 2007. RomÃ¡n Gil, mÃºsico y guitarrista barcelonÃ©s de amplia experiencia se inicia en la mÃºsica por culpa de Jimi. Forma su primer grupo con sus amigos del cole "The Idiots" hasta que los vecinos los echan. Alrededor de 1992 empieza a tocar en grupos mas serios: "Apple Band" es un clon de los Beatles, con "Apple Starking hacen covers de Hendrix, Cream, Allman Brothers... Durante esa Ã©poca (92-96) se curtiÃ³ en escenarios por toda Barcelona y comarcas pero para entonces ya habÃa descubierto a los Beach Boys y, harto de jams y solos inacabables, decide hacer una huÃda hacia adelante y otras mÃºsicas. Entre 1997 y 1998 se incorpora a la Ãºltima formaciÃ³n de Parkinson D.C., su grupo favorito de Barcelona del momento. DespuÃ©s de una gira por EspaÃ±a un tanto extraÃ±a la banda se disuelve. En ese momento RomÃ¡n ya ha decidido dejar de ser guitarrista para ser compositor de canciones. En 1999, se une a los restos de los Something para formar la banda Silver Peanut que no llegÃ³ a emerger. "El Supergrupo", su siguiente proyecto, tampoco llega a emerger. Desde entonces opta por ser mÃºsico en solitario montando su propio estudio en casa y colaborando eventualmente con otros mÃºsicos como por ejemplo en el segundo disco de Sidonie, en el concierto de homenaje a George Harrison en la sala Bikini o en el prÃ³ximo disco de Los Bisontes. El disco de RomÃ¡n, titulado "VÃa LÃ¡ctea" se ha estado cocinando a fuego lento desde hace ya un tiempo y estÃ¡ ya en la calle, RomÃ¡n compone, escribe, toca todos los instrumentos, canta, hace los arreglos, produce, es tÃ©cnico de sonido, cocina, plancha y hace la compra, vamos que es un buen partido, chicas...jijij. En diversas canciones ha contado con la inestimable ayuda de Irene Tiemersma (voz), Andreu Revilla (bateria), NarcÃs Passolas (compositor de un tema, teclados y percusion), Miri Ros (voz), Mike Garson (piano), LluÃs Esteve (piano), Guillem Baladia (piano), BÃ¡rbara Gil (letrista), Rafa Romero (saxo alto), Marc Romera (guitarra y voz) y Oriol Roset (saxo tenor y soprano).
