| Woodland Pattern Book Center is dedicated to the discovery, cultivation and presentation of contemporary literature and the arts. Founded in 1979 as a non-profit organization in Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Riverwest neighborhood, the center houses a bookstore with over 27,000 small press titles otherwise unavailable in our area. Because we are nonprofit, our inventory decisions aren't dictated by commercialism. As booksellers and as presenters of art and literature, we want people to know that there is more than what you see at your chain bookstore or are taught in school. We hope to act as a catalyst, putting readers together with small press literature. Come browse our selection of poetry, chapbooks, fine print materials, broadsides, and multicultural literature! Our space also includes an art gallery where we present exhibitions, artist talks, readings, experimental films, concerts and writing workshops for adults and children. Music:Alternating Currents Live: A series of new music co-sponsored by WMSE (91.7 FM) and Woodland Pattern and hosted by Hal Rammel. These concerts take place in our gallery and are broadcast on Alternating Currents the following Sunday evening, 6-9pm, on WMSE-FM. Performers have included Fred Lonberg-Holm, Jaap Blonk, Robin Holcomb, and Pauline Oliveros. |

Movies:Experimental Film & Video Series Co-sponsored by the UWM Film and Video Department and curated by Carl Bogner. It has featured work by Jack Smith, Stan Brakhage and Joseph Cornell as well as work by local filmmakers Stephanie Barber and Jennifer Montgomery. It is the last Friday of the month, begins at 7 P.M. and costs $2 |

Books:Best known for it’s expansive poetry section, Woodland Pattern's bookstore has over 27,000 small and independent press titles not available through other booksellers in our area. We also have an amazing Native American section featuring literature, history and art, with special attention given to regional tribes.?When you visit be sure to look through our fine press drawers, and ask to see our broadside collection. As booksellers and presenters of art and literature, we want people to know that there is more than what you see at your chain bookstore, more than what you are taught in school, more than what is reviewed in the papers. |
