| Like the classic Otis Spann song, Chicago Red came up the "Hard Way." Born on the westside of Chicago, growing up on the streets, thoughout the city. Red began playing piano at the age of six, switching to guitar at age 12, & by 15 was playing and listening to the music of the Chicago Blues scene. Seeing Muddy Waters & Howling Wolf perform, as well as meeting Louis Armstrong & Count Basie as a 10 year old had a lasting impact on his life, & gave him a passion for creating music of his own, while respecting the classic masters of the blues.....When he's not touring, Red is a frequent guest playing on KUCI 88.9 FM. Irvine/Orange Co. & also appears on KPFK Pacifica radio 90.1 FM. Los Angeles or at 88.5 FM. KCSN Los Angeles... You will often find him playing around Southern California. His music is played on Amy Goodman's nationally syndicated radio and television program "Democracy Now!"(over 500 stations). Red has also lived in New Orleans and is currently based in Los Angeles as he sets up his next tour schedule..... "Red admits there's alot of shameless self promotion out there and that the blues can be learned, but in its purest and most honest form it only comes through the pain of life and living he adds.
