| In the year 2001, “Larry’s Casting Kid’s” was founded in memory of Larry Goodlick. He loved the outdoors, sports and especially teaching kids how to fish. Larry’s dreams continue on through this wonderful program dedicated to him. “Larry’s Casting Kids” is designed to educate and promote fishing to the youth of today. This program consists of a 2-Day fishing derby, held at the Pekin Park Pavillion and Lagoon each July. The first day, each of the participants go through (at their own pace)various educational stations teaching them the basics of fishing. These stations include: Hand-on Casting, Fish Identification- Hands-on with IDNR, Knot Tying, Safety, Ethics, Rules & Regulations, Fishing Equipment, and Polluting our waterways (Littering - lead by the people from the Living Lands & Waters Foundation). Once each participants has completed this part of the program, they are given a FREE LCK T-shirt, a goody bag filled with various items donated by local businesses, and they have their picture taken for their very own LCK Fishing License. The second day is the actual fishing derby and Crazy Hat contest. Participants are given bait and are turned loose around the lagoon for some good wholesome family fun! During the derby, names of participants are drawn to win various prizes that have also been donated by local, as well as corporate sponsors. Lunch is also provided for the participants on this day.
