About Me |
|
| Welcome to Brett Spaceman. Myspace, your space, anyone’s space...man! I write, review and interview for Evilsponge and The Silent Ballet magazines but I still prefer to call myself a fan, simply.
Music, in a moment, but first - why Spaceman? I suspect Sci-Fi was on the mind of the person who coined it? Yet the main reason I didn't dislodge the moniker is that I believe it evokes a sense of dreaminess. I believe we are all remote. We spend our entire lives inside our own heads. And since we experience the real world through our senses, as interpreted by our own minds, it is arguable that the mind therefore IS the 'real world'. The only real world we'll ever know. Thus to recognize, accept and harness the power of our dreams and imagination must be something akin to lifes true purpose.
..All creation, all art is the externalization of the internal - my favourite (likely yours too) of all the arts being music. Music makes us FEEL. Therefore the greatest artists will make us feel the most intense and powerful emotions of all, whichever they may happen to be for us as individuals. Yet I ask, are these artists always the ones that are feted by the buyers, critics or their peers in the business? Of course the answer is no, hardly ever. You'll know as well as I how often the gifted go unnoticed while mediocrity rises to the very heights of this industry. It’s nothing new. Since my teens I've found myself in thrall to some hidden gem of a record. I'd be thinking, 'Which of my friends would love this? Why are none of the music papers talking about this? SHOUTING about this?' It becomes clearer with time. The music industry is a profit machine. The magazines? They're corporate hype-sheets for the most part. The critics? Often peacocks working for 'The Man' or for themselves, hardly ever for the bands or for fans. I just felt it was time to, redress the balance and the internet may be our last, best hope. Now ask yourself another question. Who writes about music? Not 'critics' in my opinion. Cynical 'build-em-up, knock-em-down' merchants with monotonous regularity. Not 'journalists' either. They, well, journal-ize! "He met him here, played this, wrote that, signed to them" etc. None of this is writing about MUSIC. Does anybody, therefore, write about music? I honestly don’t know.Where I write we are committed solely to music. We hold no affiliation to any artist, agent, label or company. We are not bound by any bias, geographical, corporate or otherwise. We just tell you about music. Myspace will point you in the general direction of terrific new bands, curiosities, underachievers and also-rans. Blogs here will signpost the latest finds and reviews.I thank you for taking the time to read this. Keep an eye on the 'friends' and my blog, subscribe by all means but most of all have fun.

I'd like to meet:..Anyone who wishes to read about music, new bands and reviews do please join my blog. It's more about spreading the word, though. If you feel the same passion as myself about music and what we're trying to do here, just spread the word to like-minded souls. I'd like to reach....more people like you. Just imagine, if everyone could bring just one more person here. Just one more! Together we could eclipse the outmoded and predisposed magazines. They hold no relevance for us anymore.Naturally I welcome contacts from bands, labels and management. If you have something you feel you’d like me to hear, drop me a message. As mentioned we’re trying to do something very different with writing which is why you won’t find an address for promos and demos. We are here to champion music. Not to waste peoples time and money (and hopes) sending out disks. I review EVERYTHING I receive so just make contact and we’ll take it from there. There is a FAQ in the blog. All friends...welcome. Past and present. Drop me a line. Good to see you. I accept 99% of add requests if for the right reasons. I’m sorry but I DON'T DOWNLOAD. I don’t allow or support downloading on my page. All the tracks I stream are my own and for the purposes of promoting the music to the friends and readers that visit. |
