About Me |
|
| Meeting people at bluegrass jams and festivals often leads to lasting Friendships. This is the case when Ron and Carleen Cain met the White family a couple of years ago. Since that first meeting and many playing sessions later we decided to make the commitment and formed the Ache'n Back String Band. If you have ever played in a jam for a long period of time the name needs no explanation. Sharing our desire to play acoustic instruments in the tradition of a front porch picking style of the early 1900s has been our goal. Bringing this type of distinctive home style music has appeal to many of todays listeners.
The sound of a fiddle always seems to draw listeners. Ann Whites fiddle does just that, leading the melody of each tune. Nick White plays a solid rhythm on the acoustic guitar with plenty of drive to compliment the lead. No mistaking the clear ringing of the mandolin played by Ron Cain and the traditional sound of Ralph Whites clawhammer style banjo supporting the melody. The upright bass played by Martha White brings it all together to create this unique sound. Add to all this the distinctive sound of Carleen Cains voice singing many of the leads and also singing harmony with Nick and Ann on many of the songs. Born in the sound of this old time style of music, presented as it might have been done in a time gone by, we have become the Ache'n Back String Band. We enjoy what we do and hope our listeners will also. We continue to find new outlets for our music as we add our own style to the songs we play while still remaining true to the Old Time string band sounds we have come to love. Close your eyes and picture in your mind the front porch of a mountain cabin with smoke rising from the chimney in the early evening. Then hear the sounds of acoustic instruments and singing in the true style of old time country and mountain music. This is what we want to present to our listeners in the music we play, taking us back for a few moments to simpler times. |
