Born in Charleston, SC and later moved to the Bronx, NY were he was then raised. He emerged from the underground scene of Charleston, S.C in 1996, and has been partaking in some of the industries most prestigious companies since then. His move to Charleston from New York led to a promising relationship and love for music/graphic design. He claims his best friend and partner in crime Martin "Finale" Grooms to be the main contributor to his accomplishments, "Martin was the first person who actually introduced me to the earlier Music Production and Graphic Art programs such as Fruity Loops & Adobe Photoshop. I still remember the first day he handed me a burned copy of Fruity Loops 5". While music production wasn't the only objective in mind, Gran would also complete these fascinating graphic art projects that where almost unbelievable to his families eyes. He wasn't your average kid; while most of his friends played sports, and enjoyed there social life he voluntarily chose to stay at home and master his craft during his early High School years, Because at a young age he then realized that he was in control of his fate. Soon after High School Gran was sent to school in Atlanta, GA to study Funeral Services and partake in the family business. This wasn't his first choice when it came to careers but with a southern bred family who could care less about his advancement in Graphic Studies and/or Recording Engineering he almost had no choice. He was about 3 months into his studies at "Gupton Jones College" when he then called his uncle to explain his withdraw from the school " I would hate to waste my time, and your money. I cant be here, this shit! aint for me". From Atlanta he then moved to New York City where he was an in house producer for "Touch The Sky Recods/City Life Music Group". The City Life Music Group started an ongoing domino effect for the young talent. While working with artist for the company he never lost touch of his graphic art skills. Gran would design T-Shirts for the company as advertisement; He used his knowledge to create the perfect marketing tool for the company - " Customized T-Shirts". The owner and president of the comapny notice this diamond in the ruff, and decided he'd be the one to help him take it to the next level. Terrance Patterson (Owner/President of Touch The Sky Records) set up a conference call with one of his business partners and young Gran; this individual was Phillip Shung (Owner/Art Director) of Sundree Brand Development/Marketing. Phillip was fascinated with the drive of this young man, " For his age he's pretty talented while also self taught... Pure genius". That conversation then changed his life; Gran was asked to come into World Wide Fashion Holding. home of the up and coming clothing brands Alador&Smith & Brinca. By the end of the conversation Gran had landed him an internship with A&S and has been working for the clothing company since December 2006. We all hope for a ride down this lonely road less traveled, hoping to accomplish the unaccomplished and seek out our dreams. Its now 2008 and what most would call the impossible, Mr. Whiteside has set out to conquer. While only 20 years of age he has now been notice for his remarkable works of art by Corporate America as-well-as middle class consumers. In the summer of 2007 he found himself in the studio with the nephew of "Dr. Dre's" world renowned protege "Tah Mahogony". The first day Persevere (BXL ARTIST/PRODUCER) met Gran they clicked; While from the same neighborhood, Persevere & Gran seem so distant in a sense. These guys practically grew up one block away from each other, but Carlos had spent his previous years in S.C. Persevere states " Gran is one of the few producers I feel comfortable leaving at the boards, no assistance needed... The kid is tough!". These two are now merging to soon form an undeniable production team coming summer of 2008. |
