| Raphaelle Tisseyre is a young working artist living in Montreal. Brought up in an artistic milieu, she found strong inspiration in her father, Philippe Tisseyre, a well-known solo pianist from Quebec, whose latest album, Life improvisations, stayed in the top 10 of the Quebec charts for 20 weeks and sold over 25 000 copies.
Raphaelle started playing and improvising on the piano at age five. She played throughout her childhood and later discovered a new passion, hip-hop and breakdance. At age 17, already with over five years of training and experience in stage performances, she joined a contemporary/street dance company, Destins Croisés, with whom she participated in several dance creations.
Her acquaintances in the dance world soon led her back to music, and at the age 19 she co-created a music band with vocalist, guitarist and dance coach Gilbert Baptiste. He was a dancer as well as a choreographer for Destins Croisés, with whom he had toured extensively in North America and Europe. Gilbert has been honored by the Office Franco-quebecois pour la jeunesse (OFQJ) for best original dance creation, and in December 2003 at the National Arts Center in Ottawa. He also produced the music for this dance piece.
Spy Nation was a natural progression in their growth as artists and a perfect marriage of their love for music, dance and hip-hop culture. Over the past year they have participated in more than sixty dance and music shows around the province, in clubs and at corporate or community events and festivals. Spy Nation most recently opened for hip-hop pioneer KRS-One at Le National in their hometown of Montreal, March 9th 2008.
In just over one year, Spy Nation has gotten over 100,000 views on their MySpace page, and is gaining much popularity on the Web. A review from a journalist for les prix Félix gave the band high marks for their originality and unique sound, saying "they stand out, loud and clear in a sea of music."
