Missy Raines and the New Hip is that rare quantity: a band who makes music absolutely no one else could make. Missy Raines, one of the most beloved figures in bluegrass today, steps out with her sophisticated brew of jazz moods, pop shimmer and bluegrass mastery. Missy Raines has long been recognized as a pre-eminent instrumentalist in bluegrass, and has just won a record 6th IBMA Bass Player of the Year award. She has recorded and toured with the giants of the field; at the same time she's pushed on all the boundaries that define bluegrass. From her early days with Cloud Valley, through her stint with the Brother Boys and her groundbreaking duo work with Jim Hurst, Missy's adventurous musical spirit has been her compass. Joining Missy are young lions like Michael Witcher (resonator guitar), Megan McCormick (acoustic and electric guitar) and Ethan Ballinger (mandolin) who have the chops to travel the challenging territory Missy has mapped out like it's a walk in the park.
