Ill poetic (Tim Gmeiner) is one half the Cincinnati hip-hop group Definition, along with emcee Young Zone (Dean Hummons).Definition started performing and recording seriously in 2000-2001, and in 2002, released the “Definition EP” to national Distribution (Boiling Point Distribution) and strong critical acclaim. (Though without promotions/publicity, this EP was mainly pushed through internet acclaim and constant performing throughout the Midwest).In 2003, each emcee began working on a solo Project, Young Zone “The Foundation”, and ill poetic, “illumination”.Upon completion of “illumination” in 2005, ill poetic decided to release the LP locally. He preceded this by distributing the 12” single “Beyond”, featuring King Solomon (MOOD/groove attack/illmindmuzik) and Piakhan (Reflection Eternal/HiTek). It soon began to climb up the Midwest record pool charts, and for a span of 3 weeks, remained number 1. It was also distributed throughout such hip-hop hotspots as California, Philadelphia and Detroit, as well as major internet sites (hiphopsite.com, sandboxautomatic.com) and was reviewed in such publications as XLR8R. In October of 2005, ill poetic released the entire LP on a local level, attempting to reach and continue building fanbases throughout his hometowns of Cincinnati and Dayton, as well as Columbus OH. It has already held spots in “top albums of 2005” in 2 different publications, and has received very favorable press in every city its been released in.In just a five year span, ill poetic (as well as Young zone) has rocked over 200 shows from the Midwest to New York, performing at events such as the Midwest Music Festival, multiple Scribble Jams, Mobile Skate Park Convention, and many more. He’s shared the stage with such notable acts as Talib Kweli, Chuck D, Little Brother, Piakhan, Blueprint (soul position/rhymesayers), Illogic (weightless), Tanya Morgan, Holmskillit, Lone Catalysts, Killer Mike, and countless more.As well as performing, ill poetic also built his name up in the battle circuit, battling at such events as Scribble Jam, and winning Battlegrounds, Midwest Supremacy battle, and many more. He’s collaborated and/or produced for the likes of Piakhan, Holmskillit, illogic, Blueprint, wordsworth, main flow, blitz the ambassador, approach, mac lethal, and many more on the horizon.Ill poetic has recently released a follow-up solo LP for a national release this june, entitled “The World is Ours”..
