After going to New York as a hip hop drummer 10 years ago,(playing for MC's Trey, Phoenix, StefEyE, Tomasia and Dana Tutaan), I came home and became a promoter of local Sydney musicians. (Stiff Gins, The Meta Bass crew, Descarga Afrocuban, Good Buddha, Mahalia Barnes, Juanita Tippins, Vassy, Lauryn Winter, Linda Janssen...and other lovelies..) I created a show called 'Smokin Mama' showcasing female leads. Brilliant musicianship coupled with yummy female vocals captured my heart for a smokin moment.My vision has always been to create an environment where quality soul music (jazz, cuban, funk, soul, blues, hip hop, reggae.. etc...) can get to the people and the people get to the music. For this reason, I am pursuing my dream, to create a kick ass music festival called 'Spirit of Soul' on Jan 18-20th, 2008. With this festival, I am ALSO hoping to raise awareness for a cause I feel quite passionate about, which is Mental Illness. I have personally been affected by friends and family who are living with Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Depression and Borderline Personality Disorder. The trauma that is felt with Mental Illness is the same as with any serious physical illness, if not more! It is too often swept under the carpet because of the stigma that is attached to it.My journey STARTED as a hip hop drummer, then percussionist and now with rhythm solidly intact, my desire to bring good SOUL music to Sydney through promoting can only inspire and heal, in this beautiful community I live in!BE READY SYDNEY! I am on the hunt for like minded musicians and soul music lovers to CREATE and RECEIVE the gift of music for my first festival in Sydney!!!BRING IT!!!!Peace and love to all! x | |

Heroes:My brother's ex girlfriend is my heroe. She is a single mum. My beautiful brother was diagnosed with Schizophrenia in 2006 and is currently living with his illness with strength and dignity. I had the privledge to live with Tracy and my niece soon after the fall out. During these 6 years, I witnessed Tracy raise my niece beautifully. She is a strong, intelligent and great teacher to her daughter. I see nothing more admirable, than, raising a child in this crazy world, who at 11 years old, has a genuine interest in others, is creative and has a strength of her own. |
