The band was created in 2002 by old friends . At the beginning,mephisto was a Rock cover band. After 200 shows through the Mediterranean Coast (South of France) during 3 years Mephisto exports itself now everywhere in France. march 2006 : first 3 tracks CD called "mephisto" november 2006 : first album " a call from nowhere " CHRONIQUE DE NOTRE PREMIER ALBUM a call from nowhere par le webzine metalorgie "La démo trois titres de Mephisto m’avait enchanté en Août dernier. Le groupe faisait déjà preuve d’un professionnalisme certain avec une musique travaillée et un son soigné. C’est donc sans appréhension que je me suis lancé dans l’écoute de A Call From Nowhere, dont les écoutes successives n’ont fait que confirmer tout le bien que je pensais déjà du groupe. Ceux qui ont déjà écouté le trois titres éponyme de Mephisto savent à quoi s’attendre puisque le disque est – sans surprise – du même acabit. Le quintet donne dans un Rock mature aux influences multiples et variées allant du Rock planant des Floyd (la superbe View) au Grunge de Soundgarden ou des Foo Fighters. Pour vous donner une idée plus présice sachez que Mephisto nous entraîne successivement sur différents terrains : Pop, Blues, Stoner, Progressif, bref, du Rock avec grand ’R’. Les chansons sont en générale plutôt longues et permettent aux musiciens de se poser sur des passages instrumentaux, plaçant ici et là quelques petites touches Seventies très appréciables avec un son Pyché à la Wright ou Lord comme on en fait plus, ou si peu ! L’aspect qui me marque toujours le plus est le chant. Varié et maîtrisé à l’instar de Maynard James Keenan de Tool avec le timbre d’un Chris Cornell (oui je me répète, cf. plus bas), et surtout toujours en adéquation avec le style de musique : chaleureux sur les arpèges ou le piano, hargneux lorsqu’il y a de la disto. Mention spéciale pour The Blues où l’interprétation rappellera l’intensité de Cédric Bixler sur Televators (The Mars Volta). Mephisto démontre avec ce premier album qu’il a toutes les qualités requises pour s’imposer sous peu comme l’un des groupes majeurs du paysage Rock français.
