About Me
Many scholars argue that an individual’s qualities are learned from their environment. Andy "Cly" Anderson defies this product of the environmental theory. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and raised in Irvington, N.J. Cly was surrounded by gangs, guns, drugs, and violence. Though his reality suggested failure, Cly’s family refused to allow that to happen. While his sister taught young Cly leadership skills, his mother worked three jobs to move her family out of inner city Irvington, giving him a strong work ethic. The instilled childhood values of leadership and hard-work led Cly on his journey for fame. What distinguishes Cly from his peers is the source of his music; he writes about what’s real. His songs are a true account of HIS life— no one else’s. All of Cly’s experiences served as influential components in his music. He says, "My versatility is unmatched…I can spit for the streets, for the club, the females, about history or a little about politics...I have no limits, this is why I love this craft." As childhood poems written about his experiences matured into lyrics, Cly’s musical ear lead him to begin participating in local street ciphers at 16. While competing with older rivals the work ethic that Cly was given drove him towards perfecting his craft to beat his local competition. Luckily, he did not stop there. Cly’s inner drive now pushes him towards the larger hip-hop scene. While working two jobs from the age of 15, Cly saved up money to fund his rap career. Now the public can reap the benefits of Cly’s hard work through the sharing of his lyrical genius; but his motto continues to be, “No rewards without struggles.”
