LUKE CHABLE BEN MORRIS RENO MATTTT TOMASS ADAM BOZETTO HOOLI GHETTO RUCKUS DERTY RICH Its that time of the year again, where all of us get the chance to get extraordinarily stupid and have a legitimate excuse that its just “being festive”. It’s the silly season again! Everyone’s got an extra spring in their step, the sun is burning and everything just seems right. Well more accurately put, right to get really fucking silly!! The sleazefest is back, and not just back again for another monthly round of bullshit tunes and plain stupidity, but those of you with any recollection of our history will know that in December we present to you our favourite bash of the year, and soil the good name of Christmas well and truly, and this year we bought along Luke Chable to help us out!! Anyone who has taken more than a passing interest in the progressive house scene in recent years would be in the possession of at least a handful of compilations or 12"s that have the name Luke Chable, the Australian producer and dance music prodigy, on the sleeve. Having produced a staggering number of tracks under a variety of pseudonyms including Lo-Step (with Phil K), The Dirty Fours (with Nubreed), Dark Alley and Quest for labels like Global Underground, Alternative Route, M-Theory, Zero Tolerance and Vapour, his tracks more often than not have been at the centrepiece of the most A-list of DJ's sets. Think Sasha, Digweed, Seaman and Tong. Legend has it that it only took him and Nubreed's Dan Bonnici a grand total of an hour and forty-five minutes to write the monster tune “Ride". That’s right, 105 minutes - and he has a witness! Having unleashed his solo efforts on both Zero Tolerance (Luke Chable) and Vapour Recordings (Quest), the quality that ‘Eat Static’, ‘Sealer’s Cove – Midnight In Cyberfunk’ and ‘Bitter & Twisted’ have delivered promise to continue the likes of Deep Dish, Sasha, John Digweed and Danny Howells all quicken their step to the post office box in the hope of more promos. With SAW Recordings, Yoshitoshi, Inversus, Vicious Vinyl, EQ, Release and Sumsonic all well and truly on the Luke Chable bandwagon with demand for his increasingly busy remix schedule the world won’t be short of Luke Chable in the future. Supports in the cave from the top-notch crew that’s made up of nothing but the brightest that Sydney has to offer, that a crew that we are lucky enough to call the full team of Explicit residents. All hands are on deck this month and that means Ben Morris will be teaming up with regular partner in crime and Explicit co-founder Reno, and we also welcome back both Matttt and Tomass back into the fray, bringing everyone together in the spirit of Christmas! Let’s just hope they all don’t get that extremely drunk and end up in the old Aussie tradition of a “festive” season punch-up with each other up there…. Or maybe we kinda do, just a little bit. In the Laundry this month we welcome into the fray making his Explicit debut a man who has been making waves in Sydney lately with some fresh as fuck productions under his belt in the electro-haus genre, and resident at one of Sydney’s most banging establishments that is WHAM at the World Bar, Adam Bozzetto! He will be joined by another DJ making their Explicit debut, but who is no stranger to the decks in this city, and has been carving up literally Australia wide as of late, One Love resident, Hooli! We also welcome back into the mix our very good friends and purveyors of nothing but old school, raw as fuck, twisted noise, the young upstart crew Ghetto Ruckus, and on warm-up duties making his Explicit debut will the Laundry’s own Derty Rich. The last two years have been without doubt the highest that we have had to offer, no less a feet achieved by just the sheer pump from all of our fans and the vibe that you guys have generated. Ajax has been the original party starter since he started flipping records in 1996, (extinguishing any dream of extending his breaking career due to an overall lack of co-ordination) honing his craft and earning his reputation whilst disbanding his post graduate in Art and his lecturing at university to devote himself purely to the Party Arts. He has performed at such festivals Big Day Out, We Love Sydney, Parklife, Vibes On A Summers Day, Field Day, Splendor In the Grass, Livid, Falls Festival, Good Vibrations Festival, Two Tribes, Gatecrasher. Holds residencies and currently performs regularly @ Sydney; Bang Gang, Good Vibrations, Killer, Kink, The Garden, Home, Electric Disco, Glitch, FBI Radio Melbourne; Honky Tonks, Revolver , Canberra; Lot 33 with a swag of one offs it will make you dizzy. And if that doesn’t, his sets will. MARK DYNAMIX If a DJ's worth were measured by longevity alone, Mark Dynamix could hang up his slipmats. Having deejayed professionally for more than 15 years, Mark is a significant figure in Australian dance music culture. He's a part of its past, present and future; part of its identity. For many, he was the guy behind the decks when you first got into dance music, one of the DJs who changed what you thought music was about – from the early Field Of Dreams & Prodigy dance parties, Voodoo at Sublime on Pitt Street, Big Day Out tours across the country right up until the Ministry of Sound tours of now.Of course none of this would mean anything if he didn't have the talent. Technically flawless, Mark's expertise with the decks combined with an inspired record selection works alchemy on a room full of clubbers, swaying anyone within earshot to become a dedicated dance music aficionado. BEN MORRIS Arguably the hottest DJ in Sydney right now. With musical taste and diversity that spreads across electro, house, minimal tech and smatterings of breaks, his trademark sound is infectious, yet definitely impossible to pigeon hole. Ben has rocked major stages all across the country, playing at festivals such as Big Day Out, Good Vibrations and Future Music, whilst keeping busy around Sydney frequenting venues such as Moulin Rouge, Yu, Slip Inn, Sounds On Sunday and of course maintaining his weekly residency at Kink. VAN SHE TECH Vanshe Technologic are the electirc love children of the shoegaze epic Van She. Vanshe's Tech, are, two girls who work closely with 2 of the band members of the band in order to create powerful and elegant, wacked out remixes from other peoples music for your dancing pleasure. Fall in love with us and we'll make you bounce ... x K.I.M. KIM (Or Kimberley Isaac Moyes as his mother calls him) is erstwhile producer/drummer/programmer and one half of THE PRESETS, Australia's foremost proponents of dashing pop/dance (non) sense and (not so) sensibility. With his KIM hat on, Kimberley mans the wheel and heads for synthetic, sexed-up electro city. While music from THE PRESETS could incite a riot, these tracks from KIM - a stripped back mix of bleeps, beats, arpeggiated chords and cascading synths - all point straight toward the dancefloor. This clean hit of pure electro action stands out as unique in Australia's (still) mash-up obsessed/anything-goes dance circles. That's not to say KIM hasn't been in good company. Tracks have already been included on Bang Gang's Ministry of Sound Mashed Two and super-uber-fag Club Kooky compilations and have become instant mainstays in many an Australian DJ box. JAMES TAYLOR..> Fast rising to the top of the Sydney scene, James is also one of the most diverse DJs Sydney has to offer. James has rocked dance floors with his unique sound encompassing the whole scope of breaks and has now reached into the dirty electro sound. After recently touring the country to promote the Fuzzy breaks compilation which he mixed with UK breaks stalwarts the Drummattic Twins, James is set to be this countrys next big thing. HOOK N SLING With less than 5 releases to date, all picked up by Ministry of Sound and Renaissance, Australian producer and DJ HooknSling has cemented himself in the up-and-coming producers elite. It was Vegas Heat that made people sit up and listen to this new energy on the scene. Smashed by James Zabeila, it also received multiple airplays on Radio 1, Kiss FM and Triple J Australia. Earning strong acclaim for his production style, HooknSling's latest release, He Doesnt Love You, heralds the distilled sound that is uniquely his. Firmly in the boxes of Deepdish, Fontaine and Coburn, this remix for high profile Australian rock queen Sarah McLeod, was snapped up for release in October 2006 by Renaissance. Since its release, He Doesnt Love You, has recently become an ARIA Club Chart No1, going on to top sales charts internationally. HooknSlings talent behind the decks alongside his energetic production style, have helped Anthony step up and play extensively throughout Australia / NZ and perform 2 UK tours, always a crowd favourite. MARK MURPHY Mark has become one of Sydneys leading DJs, groundbreaking in his party promotions and even more so with his barrier-breaking musical style. He was at the forefront of the electro explosion and has championed the revival of the 303 and the burgeoning rave-influenced sounds coming out of Europe. Mark's first gig was a residency at the now infamous Ffierce parties at Club 77, the Roof (Palladium) and Arq. Gus da Hoodrat... “life is simple, g in it, I mean be in it!” TRENT RACKUS It was a 1992 warehouse party in the inner Sydney suburb of Alexandria where Rackus' (aka Trent Grimes) ears were blessed by the sound of repetitive beat music. It was these rave parties that nurtured Trents love of electronic music to the point of obsession. Since then, Trent Rackus has had residencies at or played at every major club in Sydney. This includes Home, Tank, Chinese Laundry, Moulin Rouge currently Rouge Rock-R resident, Gas, Club 77, Space, Superdome, YU, Sounds on Sunday, The Metro & Skygarden. During Trent’s DJ career he has been billed alongside some of the worlds dance communities finest ambassadors including Steve Lawler, Steve Angello, Trentemoller, Eric Morillo, Lucien Foorte, Sharem Jey, John Digweed, Sebastian Ingrosso, Satoshi Tommie, BT, Green Velvet, Hybrid, Ivan Smagghe, Way out West, Dave Angel, Mike Monday, Moguai, and the Freestylers, to name a few. Download Jeff Drake's Demo Here TELEFUNKEN Telefunken is Boffa and Big Daddy Cam, a rambunctious and music-mad pair playing up a storm on the turn-tables of Sydney and beyond. On his own Boffa has been plying his trade in the Sydney scene since 1998 with a wealth of experience at venues such as Globe, Candy’s, Le Panic, Yu and a massive three and a half year residency at Chinese Laundry! Boffa has played played alongside the likes of Scissor Sisters, Moloko, Mylo, John Digweed, Crazy Penis, Halo and Hipp-e, Tiga, Miss Kitten, Kaskade, Chris Lum, Jay-J, Tayo, Tiefschwarz and many more. As the usual DJ bio goes, Big Daddy Cam has been collecting records since 1997 but never had the desire to take his DJ’ing skills outside of the bedroom until he did a gig at the Slip Inn with Boffa in mid-2005. Their sounds were similar with a love for the deeper techy side of house, they found a natural flow with both their mixing and programming and above all were having a blast whilst still keeping the punters happy on the dance-floor. ROBBIE LOWE Robbie Lowe is certainly a name familiar in Australian clubbing, and hes rapidly establishing himself in the major musical centres around the world, having recently completed both a US and UK tour schedule. Robbies style encompasses the best freshly produced tech and tech house beats, channelling the energy straight onto the dance floor, spiked by more acidic and quirky melodic elements that drive clubbers utterly mental. Robbies musical style is anything but generic, with a well-known RL signature throughout his mixes. Need proof?? You wont have to look too hard - Robbies regular Australian gig timetable includes The Garden, Sounds on Sunday, Sweetchilli, Musica, Good Vibrations and Habit. BEN KORBEL Ben, at 28 years of age, has been DJing for more than 10 years. After winning the 3D World Bedroom Bangers competition in 1998, Ben went on to be voted No.1 in the country in Australia’s very first national DJ poll, the AUS DJ Top 20, co-coordinated by Inthemix. When Inthemix then started their Technics 50 the following year, Ben was voted No. 7 in the country. These high ranking scores are testament to Ben’s appreciation of a wide range of music and ability to deliver both a set to 200 people in a back room and please 2000 more people on the main dance floor. Ben recently had a mix featured on international site Ibiza Voice which has been viewed more than 5000 times in only 3 months. Ben also has a PODcast scheduled for early 2007 with global dance website Resident Advisor. He has quite an impressive cv supporting djs such as Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox, Felix Da Housecat, Groove Armada, Jaques Lu Cont, Nick Warren, Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells, MANDY, DJ T, Ewan Peason & James Zabiela just to name a few RENO Its safe to say that Reno's rise in the Sydney scene has been nothing short of meteoric. At only 22 years of age and after having only owned turntables since May 2005, he already finds himself with residencies and regular slots at clubbing institutions such as Kink, Smut, Chinese Laundry & Explicit. Not only has he shared the bill with every big name Sydney has to offer, he also has a truly enviable international support list which includes Trentemoller, Hybrid, King Roc, Steve Bug, Switch, Tom Neville, Alex Kid, Coburn, Freq Nasty, Z-Trip, Sammy Jo & Outlaws. Inspired by the electro explosion in 2005 he hit the decks and has since defined his own sound that spans from electro-trash/tech/hard-edged electro-house. Tomass has wasted no time in making his mark on the scene, already playing clubs like YU and can be regularly seen tearing up Havana with his partner in crime Matttt, playing alongside Sydney icons like Ben Morris, James Taylor, Mark Murphy, Ajax, Gus Da Hoodrat and Jaime Doom! Still a rather fresh 19 years of age, Matttt with partner in crime Tomass has taken to a fortnightly residency manning the 4-6 graveyard shift at Havana, an experience which has already seen him play alongside and impress well established DJ's such as Ajax, Jaime Doom, Gus Da Hoodrat, and Trix. He still has no idea what genre of dance music he's into, but rest assured, it'll be techy, dirty, and a little bit twisted. BEN DUNLOP Still new to the scene it hasn't taken Ben Dunlop long to establish his name as one to watch. Brought up on a staple diet of progressive house the ‘obsession’ has only grown from there. Nowadays he often finds himself inspired by the likes of Steve Lawler, Audiofly, Robert Babicz & Satoshi Tomiie to name a few. Ben’s short career has already found him playing in some of Sydney’s top clubs such as Explicit @ Havana, Candys Apartment, The Cross and more recently gaining a residency with the Sweetchilli crew & Famous @ Home Nightclub. With a music collection made up of for the most part minimal/tech-house this is what you can anticipate to hear but determined to let the music do the talking don’t expect anything but good music from this 21 year old. Something clicked along the line and he probed himself a spot as one of the Kink rotating residents after a year of on and off playing-out and continued fueling vices by also playing places/nights like Explicit, Rock'R@Rouge, sweetchilli, Smut, YU, Havana and Favela where he pedals his wares week in week out to doe-eyed, swaying customers with the anticipatory sensation that something left-field, fantastic and marginally legal could happen at any moment.
