If you want to send me a message or real comment or anything, please do! But... would you email me instead? I am very unreliable with myspace, and I wouldn't want you to think I was ignoring you!! As easy as a myspace message... vanessa@vprager.com Vanessa Prager was born and raised in the art enclave that is Los Feliz, a tiny bohemian suburb of Los Angeles. Prager's first inclination towards drawing would come in her high school years, when she was assigned a perspective book to work from. As happens with those naturally talented, her imagination was immediately piqued and, soon, an artist was born. Shortly thereafter, Prager began sketching photographs from available material, mainly popular magazines, and within a few months time had placed and won at numerous local shows. With those small accomplishments under her belt, Prager began to lust after vibrant colors and larger working spaces. Painting seemed a logical next step, and so she began the life-long pursuit of painter. As it happens with the naively ambitious, she set about purchasing oil paints, there would be no detour through acrylics, and an armload of books so Prager could teach herself. Within eight months, she had completed both the stunning "Red Dress" and, also, the darkly moody and frank piece entitled "Juliette". As more and more people began responding to the work, it was inevitable that a gallery would come calling. As September of 2004 approached, Prager's work was showcased in a dual artist show in Downtown LA, at the prestigious Warehouse Gallery. True to her course thus far, Prager's work almost completely sold out. Thus, she began in earnest to tackle big canvases and prepare for her next exhibition. Prager soon became inundated with different offers and requests and it becomes hard to map out a linear path from where she began to where she is now. To date, Prager has done more than a few collaborations with magazines, most notably MEAN. She has continued to be included in a myriad of group shows in the surrounding neighborhoods and her work is sold worldwide. She has the special distinction of knowing that Meryl Streep has been gifted with one of her pieces and that her work has found a home in many of the art and entertainment elite. Vanessa Prager continues to work and live in Los Feliz and, of course, is preparing work for upcoming exhibits. She is a young woman with the eye of someone much older and wiser, one who captures moments that the viewer can hold forever. |
