From a small city on the edge of a really big island comes The Quills. Comprised of Dave Butler on vocals and guitar, John Pickering on drums, Will Feeney on bass and Andrew Stone on keys, The Quills are a charismatic four piece band emerging from the Brisbane music scene. With influences from Coldplay, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix and The Killers, The Quills progressively break away from comparisons and forge their own identity. The Quills have quickly developed a unique sound bursting with insightful lyrics and catchy rhythms since their formation in early 2006. Building a loyal and rapidly growing fan base through exciting live shows and word of mouth, the four continue to thrill audiences with intense onstage performances. After recording a three track demo in mid-2006, The Quills re-entered the studio in March 2007 to record their first single 'Foresight'. With a driving rhythm section, powerful synths, and unforgettable melodies, 'Foresight' exceeds many expectations for a debut independent release in terms of standard and quality. In June The Quills recorded the follow up track 'At Night', a testimony to their ability to extend and progress musically. Mastered by the award winning Don Bartley, the production of these world class tracks announces the bold arrival of The Quills on the Australian music scene. As their name symbolises, The Quills' music is timeless: a sound that transcends decades refusing to be confined by current trends. From 80s synthesisers to blues guitar, pop melodies to grooving drum beats, The Quills craft their distinctive melodies by combining diverse musicianship with innovative concepts. After releasing 'Foresight' to a packed house at The Fox Hotel, The Quills are confident to take their music to a larger and wider audience. The Quills have already played to a variety of audiences in variety of venues, including pubs, clubs and theatre shows as well as larger venues such as The Tivoli and events such as the Caxton Street Seafood Festival and RegattaFest. The Quills have most recently been included in the 2007 Woodford Folk Festival line-up, playing all four dates leading up to New Years Eve. The Quills have just emerged from the studio after recording the final tracks for their debut EP release. Titled "Some New Place", the EP is due for release in mid November. The Quills are ready to take on a national audience and are planning to hit the road in the coming months! |
