| You may have heard of me, but you haven't really heard my music... Well, all that’s about to change. My story is pretty amazing, but it’s about to become even more remarkable. You may know me from my days with Milli Vanilli, but that was then. Entertainment Tonight compared my new music to Usher and Marvin Gaye... That’s Entertainment Tonight, not me. It’s modern Urban music with state-of-the-art beats from some of the hottest R&B producer/writers around. Universal Pictures is making a movie about my life, executive produced by my manager Kim Marlowe, who spearheaded the project. Jeff Nathanson (The Terminal, Catch Me If You Can) will write and direct, with Kathleen Kennedy (Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds) as producer, both of whom have frequently worked with Steven Spielberg. All I can say is that you should join me for the ride. You won’t be sorry... Writing and recording has put me back in touch with the kind of energy that can only be found in creating new music. It’s drawn from all my various experiences, both the positive and the difficult. It is my way of working through what's happened to me. I was born in Paris, the son of an architect/builder and pharmacist. I learned about music from my grandfather, a fisherman/baker who played the accordion and took me on his travels throughout the Caribbean. I moved to Germany when I was 18, and got turned on to the funk, rap and soul of Run DMC, Prince, the Gap Band, Parliament-Funkadelic and Sly & the Family Stone. It was in Munich where I first met my good friend Rob Pilatus. We were a couple of penniless and homeless kids who jumped at the chance to sign a recording contract, and within months we were touring the world, entertaining enthusiastic audiences. That album, Girl You Know It’s True, sold more than 14 million copies around the world and we were all over MTV... We agreed to appear on the very first Behind the Music to put it all behind us and start fresh, but when Rob died of an accidental drug overdose in 1998, I was forced to move on as I continued reinventing myself. I went on to host a midday show on L.A. radio mainstay KIIS-FM and also performed at the station's Wango Tango concert before 50,000 at Dodger Stadium. There was a BBC documentary, It Takes Two: The Story of the Pop Duo, and several other performances in Europe and on TV. |
