About Me

In a world that seems to be changing constantly, the Rabbit Hash General Store is a heaping slice of Americana from another era. A working general store since 1831, the Rabbit Hash General Store is the heart of historic Rabbit Hash, a quaint little Northern Kentucky river-town whose fortunes literally have risen and fallen with the waters of the Ohio River.

The town’s name, “Rabbit Hash,” is said to have originated during the flood of 1847 when the abundant local rabbit population was driven to higher ground and became a food staple in a special stew called “hash.”

The town of Rabbit Hash is perhaps best known for the fact that they elected a dog for their mayor. Not once, but twice! We recently lost our second mayor, Jr. the black lab, to cancer. He was 2 days shy of his 13th birthday. The town was also the central theme of the recent documentary by Jude Gerard Prest called "Rabbit Hash, the Center of the Universe". For more on the history of Rabbit Hash visit the web site at: www.rabbithash.com, or the Rabbit Hash Historical Society at: www.rabbithashusa.com.

The Rabbit Hash General Store is the town’s social focal point. It still sells groceries and other staple items for local residents as well as antiques, collectibles and crafts, hand-made soaps, wooden kitchen utensils, enamelware, and the necessary hats, shirts and postcards.

Although bluegrass musicians have frequented the old plank floors behind the wood stove for years, the Rabbit Hash General Store has recently become one of the most sought after gigs in the Northern KY/Greater Cincinnati area. Featuring Live Music in the store every Sunday afternoon in the winter and Barn Dances once a month in the summer as well as the annual "Old Timers Day" (with bands all day long), it has become a mecca for bluegrass, blues, folk, world, rockabilly and roots musicians and fans. So check out the calendar and come on down to experience it for yourself!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Musicians who enjoy playing "real" gigs and People who need a break from the mad rush of everyday life.

WHO WE WOULD NOT LIKE TO MEET: Crude People. Please keep in mind that Rabbit Hash KY is a family friendly environment. This page is used to allow those who live near a place to comment, those who don't live near a place to find out about us, and to promote our musicians and events. Although we are happy for anyone's interest, if you post a comment that is off color or contains innapropriate visuals, it will be deleted, and your page deleted from our friends list. So please be nice, and help us keep our image as the Undisputed Center of the Universe!
Thanx.
