Layout Created at KillerKiwi.net Do you remember the first record you ever bought? Jo Kira certainly does. It was this first purchase that ignited Jo Kira's love affair with house music. For Jo Kira, House music is a passion. the love story can be traced back to her school days when she bought her first ever record, Thomas Bangalter's 'Trax on the rocks vol. 1'. soon after listening to this 4 track ep, Jo realised something - she was hooked! The infectious french sound left Jo hungry for more, and before long her search for quality French house music took her directly to the music of Daft Punk. Their first album 'Homework' awoke a desire in Jo, and whilst other girls her age were out chasing boys, Jo was continuing to collect vinyl, and teaching herself how to mix on her brother's decks! Jo Kira perfected her skills with help from her brother (Jason Fakeerah), and allowed herself to broaden her horizons. Artists such as the S men, Barbara Tucker, Tuff Jam, MAW and many others began to shape Jo Kira's musical style and preferences behind the decks. Her dedication to collecting vinyl and mixing paid off when she landed her first ever gig at an all-girl DJ night called 'Love At First Sight'. This marked the beginning of a promising involvement within the local music scene, and the night was received with open arms by the clubbers of Leeds who were sick of male DJ's taking all the limelight. Jo landed a residency at the night, and along with her female counterparts, brought a unique sound to the Leeds masses. As her confidence began to grow, Jo started to become heavily influenced by the choppy, tough jackin sounds of the Rhythm Masters and other similar producers. Jo's style was starting to evolve, and she would incorporate not only funky vocal tracks into her sets, but also tougher jackin beats. When asked to describe a typical set Jo replied: "I like to take a mixture of sounds in my DJ bag. Anything from Tiga all the way through to Inland Knights, and everything in-between!"Jo Kira hopes to take her style of house music nationwide... |
