Matt Howard is a country music singer/songwriter from Georgia with roots in traditional country, bluegrass, gospel and southern rock. He recalls Elvis as his first true singing inspiration. As a fourth grader, he was selected to be a member of the prestigious Atlanta Boys Choir as an international performer. However, he was too interested in baseball at the time and declined the once in a lifetime offer. It wasn't until a couple of years later at a youth church camp in Florida that he discovered his passion for singing. It was at this time that he knew music would always be a big part of his life. "My uncle started teaching me how to play guitar at the age of 11. He had vast experience in bluegrass, country, jazz, classical and rock music. "He's the best guitar player I have ever known and my greatest musical influence." He has been influenced by many different artists from all styles. Some, but certainly not all of his influences would include Elvis, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Jr., Johnny Cash, Bill Monroe, Ricky Skaggs, Doug Stone and Travis Tritt. "I could sit here all day naming artists that have influenced me. I've tried to take bits and pieces from each of them to incorporate into my own style." Matt's style is traditional country, and if he had to describe himself in one word, the word would be "original." "I have an unorthodox style of songwriting. I like to take the listener on a mental trip." When talking about his vocals he says, "I sound like me. If a person knows me, they will know it's me singing after the first note." He believes that originality is his key asset. From the smallest dives to some of the biggest honkytonks, this fourth generation country musician has performed all over Georgia and the Southeast. No matter the venue, one thing remains constant, Matt Howard pours his heart and soul into each song and performance as if it were his last. |
