About Me

I was raised in western NY with a little Ohio sprinkled in, too. Because of this, I root for both Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns; both Syracuse Orangemen and The Ohio State Buckeyes (They choked again.) I was born in Las Vegas. Yes, there are people who live there year-round, not just for the slots and showgirls.*****Since my alma mater(see school section) is in the District of Columbia, I chose to stay nearby. I love the area, or as they say here, the "ureayuh" =), and have spent most of my adult life there. Sometimes I have been known to root for Georgetown, but never Washington's football team. I am offended and disgusted by their name. =( *****I am a blood-bought believer in Jesus Christ. Some people think that Christians are judgemental hypocrites(and truthfully, some are). My belief is that Christians aren't perfect, we're just forgiven. I try to live as close the the Bible as I can, and the rest, Jesus will set in order when He comes[back].*****As with all Christians, I have a calling. My calling is to teach, mostly children, but I have taught early childhood, elementary, middle school age and Pre-G.E.D. adults. In this country, education is not a priority or valued(If you don't believe me see the high-stakes-testing, under-funded, so-called "No Child Left Behind" Act, which was passed without the nation's teachers' input.) Teachers don't make a lot of money for the amount of training and education we must acquire(taking classes and standardized tests every few years to be recertified). I knew that from the beginning, so instead of making money, I make a difference. It's very rewarding.***** In a way, I get to have a piece of immortality. This is because I work every day with people who will probably live to see the beginning of the 22nd century. I get a new, younger set each year. As the late teacher-turned-astronaut Christa McAuliff said, "I touch the future. I teach.*****I edited my profile at Freeweblayouts.net , check out these Myspace Layouts! Myspace Graphics

My Interests

NubianGraphics.comreading, e-mailing friends and family, music, plays/shows/concerts, (I saw "Dreamgirls" twice. I just saw the musical "Wicked". They both were great.), interested in political events/endeavors, working with children(my day job and my part-time jobs)

I'd like to meet:

Jesus(face to face), Nelson Mandela(I came close, too, about 100 yards away.)If I could go back in time, I'd like to meet my deceased grandparents(the ones I never got to see).

Music:

Books:

I read a book this weekend called "WHY WE TEACH" by Linda Alston. It was so inspirational. I read the first chapter about what she did with her kindergartners, that I ALMOST thought about teaching it again or at least think about maybe teaching it in the future. You don't understand--I DO NOT like teaching kindergarten(I love my babies, I just don't want to formally teach 5 yr. olds how to read and write when they haven't mastered their bodily functions.). I have been on count down since October. Anyone who would make me even think of reconsidering is a wizard."Letters to a Young Brother" by Hill Harper, "Fabulocity" by Kimora Lee Simmons, any historical book by Beverly Jenkins, "The Shame of a Nation" by Jonathan Kozol, "The Covenant" and "What I Know For Sure" by Tavis Smiley. My new guilty pleasure are Kimani Press romances. They a little trashy, but I love them. It's BET/Arabesque meets Sillouette/Harlequin.
