| Notenshun are dj’s / producers Lofty and Werner Niedermeier.
Lofty is best known for being behind one of the UK’s most successful soulful dance labels, Chillifunk Records, and one of London’s best known and longest running record shop’s Flying Records. Chillifunk released productions from Phil Asher, Nathan Haines, Lexington Ave, Peace Division, Kenny Dope, Jody Watley, Blackbeard, Yam Who, Ultra Nate, Terry Callier, East West Connection and Francois K to name a few. Lofty dj’s all over the world since coming to recognition in 1990 at some of London’s pioneering club nights such as Flying, Full Circle, Dingwalls, Ministry of Sound etc… As well as writing and producing two albums with Dr Bob Jones as East West Connection, he began releasing tracks as Notenshun back in 1996, “Chilli Palmers Day Off” "Cantina" and "Chilli In Rio" and more recently in "Unfinished Business" and "Soul Music" featuring the vocals of Sandy Mill. In 2004 Werner Niedermeier joined Notenshun. Werner has remixed the likes of Terry Callier, Reel People, Robert Owens and Lenny Fontana to name a few and promoting clubs and dj’ing all around the world. Werner had his own label called Soul Camp Records when he was based in Berlin and gained a reputation for being one of the up and coming dj talents and producers coming out of Germany alongside the likes of Jazzanova, Rainer Truby, Henrik Schwarz etc… Notenshun released their debut album on Chillifunk in Autumn 2005 entitled “Traffic”. It was a melting pot of soul, funk, house, latin and electro .The album was an underground classic fusing together retro analog synth sounds like the Moog and traditional Brazillian percussionists alongside the latest effects and production. Notenshun have also mixed and compiled mix cd’s for top compilation labels like Los Angeles..s Kinkysweet (Afterdark London) and SuSu Records (Bar SuSu 2) as well as providing the dj mix on “Chillifunks Best Of Ten Years” cd release. Remixes include the likes of Ultra Nate, Marathon Men, Nathan Haines, Bluey from Incognito’s Diplomats of Soul project, M-Swift and the 45 minute mix made up of the accapellas, beats and remixes edited together from Verna Francis included on the Japanese release of her album “Down To Earth”. Notenshun are one of the most exciting producer / dj outfits around. Musically inspired from the sounds of classic soul and black music across the board to electronic European Grooves and the techno sounds of Detroit. Music with an edge is how its best described. In November 2007 we can expect their 2nd album called "Unfinished Business" incl. singles feat. Ann Saunderson, Sandy Mill, Marcus Begg and Pierre Piccarde released on IRMA Records (Japan). New remixes of Spirit Catcher's 'Harmonize", Sophia Nelson "Woman in Love" and Sequential Soul "Breath Deeper" (GOGO Music), DJ Khadji's "Groove One" are on their way as well as a new deep house release called "Clockwise E.P." on Audio Culture Recordings.
