The real Mighty Casey story.It was the bottom of the last inning. Talent's team is winning 8 to 7 against Smitty's Night Club located in the BX. There were two outs and a runner on 1st base and I was up to bat.Nevermind, I've played softball for over 40 years.Nevermind, I was the Captain of my High School and College baseball teams.Nevermind, I have been in this situation a billion times before.... If I hit a homerun we win and would continue to dominant over Talent's boyz over the years.The first pitch was delivered and it was hit high, it was far, and it was foul. Strike one. A sigh of relief was heard coming from his team.The second pitch was delivered and with all of my life, I hit that ball well over the fence...but foul again. Strike two. Another sigh of relief was heard coming from Talent's team.Finally, the crowd of about 500 people were standing in dead silence. The sweat pouring off of Talent's face and my teammates were waiting in anticipation for this amazing comeback and sure victory. I summoned all my years of experience playing this sport, to again become the hero..........The third pitch was delivered, floating thru the air, my eyes widen, my muscles tightening, my heart pumping with my bat ready to deliver the triumph blow........... I struck out.... True story. There's always next year. BS. |
