(No more heroes anymore .... OR ... we can be heroes, just for one day?!?!?!?) People who live their dreams and don't get dissuaded by self-doubt or negative influences. They are heroes. And I cannot claim to be one of them. MOVIES... Recent favourites include Memoirs of a Geisha, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind & The Constant Gardener. All time favourite is Monty Python's Life of Brian hands down.... Television... I'm am an unashamed Eastenders addict. I am as lowbrow as they come with TV. Can't wait for the new Life on Mars . Gave up on Desperate Housewives halfway through the first series because real life took precedent. My perfect hangover cure is a day in bed watching repeats of Friends (I know!! But my solitary braincell can only cope with the undemanding you see). I love comedy but have noticed lately that nothing on TV is particularly Laugh Out Loudy. Am I missing something?
My ideal day: .BOOKS...... I am starting Reading Lolita in Tehran for my book group, will have to take it on holiday... will probably have to revisit Lolita as well. Currently by my bedside halfway through being read are Zadie Smith On Beauty, Tash Aw Harmony Silk Factory. Before that E M Forster Howards End, Daniel Defoe Moll Flanders and before that John Peel Margrave of the Marshes. Very much enjoyed that although felt there could have been so much more to it, and felt as I'm sure many readers did, a real sense of having had him stolen from me before he had finished... The introduction by his children and the last few pages of his wife Sheila's section really brought a lump to the throat. Having gone to school in Bury St Edmunds where his public funeral was held and also having had lots of schoolfriends from Stowmarket the descriptions of Suffolk were very real. I'm afraid I haven't read much else lately, I used to be a real bookworm. I do have a compulsive-cookery-book-buying fetish though. |
