About Me |
|
| Justin Houchin was born and raised in Los Angeles CA. He began playing the guitar at the age of thirteen, studying with Stephen Jones and the Falla Trio’s Kenton Youngstrom. He studied music with an emphasis on classical guitar performance at Pasadena City College and now attends the San Francisco Conservatory of music where he studies with world-renowned guitarist and composer Sergio Assad. While at PCC he placed second in the Milton and Harriet Mohs Competition for Strings for two years in a row, and won the competition in 2008. He has also received multiple awards for his compositions, and played a number of honor recitals including the end of the semester student recital. In 2006 he won the Music Association of California Community Colleges Statewide Composition Scholarship and in the spring of 2008 he became the first guitarist to win the PCC concerto competition. For the last two years he has been hired regularly for private parties, coffee shops, weddings and corporate events throughout Los Angeles and during the summers he performs weekly at a winery. His teaching experience includes a small studio of private students as well as a group guitar class at the CCHC youth center in San Gabriel CA. | |
