| Currently looking for a bass player and drummer. If you're interested please contact Kaz asap.Kaz was born in Scotland, but has lived in Melbourne, Australia, since 1998. The release of her debut CD "The Dinner Party" began a string of awards and recognition for her song writing.Great American Song Contest 2003 - Best Female in Pop CategoryFifth place in the 2004 Coffee House Category ASA Songwriters CompetitionWinner in Compo-10 competition, with winning song recorded for an international compilation CD.Honorary mention in Song Of The Year Contest, 2004Nominated in the 2004 New York based Outmusic Awards for best debut recording by a female musician."The Dinner Party" was produced and arranged by local musician Michael Matthews. Musicians on the CD are Justin Humphries on drums and percussion, Gary Norman on guitar, Michael Matthews on bass, keyboards and programming, Helen Mountford on Cello, and Kaz on vocals and guitar. The CD is a mix of cool jazz, funk and classic pop with a twist.Kaz works mainly as a solo artist, but has been lead singer and songwriter in several bands both here and in Scotland. These have included Wild Rice, Parma Violet, and Burn of Sorrow.As a writer Kaz is influenced by artists such as Elvis Costello, Joni Mitchell, Ron Sexsmith and Tom Waits, songwriters with an understanding and love of words as well as melody. Amongst the many independent artists Kaz promotes on her weekly radio show on Joy 94.9 are Ani Di Franco, The Weepies, Noe Venables, and Martha Wainright. Local talent Kaz frequently plays include Kate Miller Heidke, Jen Cloher, and Clare Bowditch. Her vocals have been compared with Joan Armatrading, kd Lang, Annie Lennox and Tracy Thorn from Everything But The Girl. .. |

Influences: Early influences would be Elvis Costello, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, Talking Heads, Indigo Girls, Ron Sexsmith, Elvis Presley, Joan Armatrading. country music, rock music, pop music, jazz, folk - all the good stuff that's ever been made. Contemporary music I love is too vast to mention but I'll try anyway. Martha Wainwright, The Weepies, Deb Talon, Patty Larkin, Clare Bowditch, Jen Cloher, Liz Stringer, Emma Heaney, Anne McCue, Mia Dyson, Ann Vriend, Laura Viers, and the list goes on and on and on........... Sounds Like: Have been compared to Annie Lennox, Tracy Thorn, Joan Armatrading. The album has been likened to Sade, Steely Dan and Level 42.
