-----------------It all started out a cold day in feb ..05 We decided to meet and rehearse some Motorhead songs just for fun, but after a asskicking opening with Ace of spades we all felt that we should make something out of it. So we broke up with our former bands to pay tribute to the ultimate rocktrio of all time!! Motorhead. Now a year after we have rehearsed in just about 30 songs, and recorded 26 of them. on two different albums +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++--------------------OVERHEAD A tribute-----------------------------------I am a little in doubt on what..s the point in buying a cd from a tribute-band, but then i guess a cd is a good tool to get gigs. And it..s nice to get some help from us writers too, isn..t it?I got the OVERHEAD cd in my mailbox a while ago, and haven..t been given it just as many turns in my cd-player as a regular cd, but it got some turns and what facinated me is how close up to the original they are.There are 15 songs to choose between here, and my opinion is that the choice of songs are good. I have always missed someone who..s doing something about the unusually choice of songs Orgasmatron is an example among my absolute favourites even though I grew up with the older records. Iron Horse was also a great contribution. So with the classics onboard and a couple of nice surprises i guess there is only one thing to do: tip the bookers that OVERHEAD is ready for the stage. On a record the..re just a copy...;)Speaking of the vocals it was also very good, sometimes it sounded like a mix between Lemmy himself and Wendy O. (Rip)In the end you might say that they sound more TANK than MOTORHEAD, but that..s not a bad reference.And is it just me who..s getting flashbacks to the classroom when the bandname is beeing chewed on?5/10 for the record, 8/10 for impressive playing and for having control on what they..re doing....Review by Yngve M. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++OVERHEAD A TRIBUTE TO THE HARDEST, FASTEST AND LOUDEST ROCKBAND IN THE WORLD---------------Anybody who doesn..t get what this is all about??------------------Yeah that..s right OVERHEAD is simply a MOTORHEAD tribute-band.
I have to say that Jan Cato Traa (Drums), Haavard Hommeland (Bass, Vocals) and Geir Kristiansen (guitar) is doing a great job in paying tribute to what obviously is their heroes. But then I really can..t see the point in buying this record when the original is even better. The songmaterial feels predictibal, but then again Iron Horse (Born To Loose) is a song that I didn..t expect. It..s impossible for me to say that the record feels meningless when I consider how great the performance of the songs really are, and the fact that Haavard..s voice sounds just as dirty as Lemmy..s in some songs. In a song like for example Motorhead The difference is so small that you would easily be tricked to belive that it..s the real thing. The only thing that you..ve might be missing is that the singer haven..t had got the time to consume just as many whisky and cigarettes as the man himself just to get that perfect voice.One thing that is certain is that the drummer should have stayed behind his drumkit where he..s doing a great job. In the end he is taking over the mic. and it doesn..t sound very nice.
I hope to see these guys at the Battle of the Tribute-Bands at the Sweden Rockfestival later this year, If thats the case the chance of them getting my voice is big. To any MOTORHEAD-fan my tip will be to invest in one more t-shirt or something of your favourite band instead of buying this record. But then you really should invest in a ticket (that I expect won..t be to expensive) if OVERHEAD comes to town, because you won..t get a better substitute to the real thing......review by Daniel Kvarnstrom www.getmetal.com
