She formally began her career in the Chicago jewelry industry as a bench jeweler. However, fashion always aroused her curiosity in culture-anthropology, and the pursuit to combine the two interests began...with cement. It was 1986, the buyer of a boutique didn't want to see any of the usual sterling silver jewelry, she wanted to see something made from unconventional materials. Responding to the challenge, the artist's first successful accessory collection was born, fashioned from cement and blackened steel. Sold in high-end boutiques as tantalizing side-dishes to clothing lines such as Comme des Garcons and Yoji Yamamoto. Today, B Jewelry's exploration continues with stunning combinations of angora and hand engraving; 22K gold gild fabric, wrapped or knotted chain, and handmade tassels. The materials change constantly, but the pursuit of striving toward the future in decorative forms remains the same. | |
