Maaike Peterse - Violoncello My teachers were great cellists like Michel Roche (Utrecht Conservatory, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra) Ceacilia van Hoof (The Hague Philharmonic), Maria Starke (The Hague Philharmonic) Lucia Swarts (Royal Conservatory The Hague, Schönberg Ensemble, the ASKO Ensemble and the Amsterdam Bach Soloists and the Netherlands Bach Association Baroque Orchestra).After my degree in music and cello at the Royal conservatory of The Hague, i started working as a educational manager with the The Hague Philharmonics. And after that i started doing about the same at the Philipshall / Lucent Danstheatre in The Hague. Music that makes my world go round. :-)I try to play as much cello as i can in chamber ensembles, orchestras and recently with the Progressive Myth Rock formation Kingfisher Sky. With this great band i started a journey and as a guest band member i play with them on occasion. It's one of the most interesting and forfilling dreams that came trough during the last few years. THE VIDEOCLIP: NOVEMBER - KINGFISHER SKY The Kingfisher Sky story begins in 2001, when drummer Ivar de Graaf decided to part ways with Within Temptation, a band who were experiencing their first international breakthrough at the time. Together with classically trained vocalist Judith Rijnveld, Ivar started writing new music without being bound to a specific genre or musical style. With diverse influences such as Heart. Clannad, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree, the writing resulted in a style that isn't easy to categorise, though the term Progressive Myth Rock seems to cover all bases. In short: contrasts - one moment dreamy and atmospheric, then heavy and brutal the next. By the beginning of 2006 the writing efforts were compiled on an impressive eleven track demo, which ultimately led to the duo signing a recording contract with Suburban Records the following October. Former Orphanage bassist Eric Hoogendoorn, guitarists Daan Janzing and Edo van der Kolk and keyboardist George van Olffen were recruited to make Kingfisher Sky a full band and from May through July of 2007 the band recorded in several studios, under the inspired guidance of producers Jochem Jacobs (Textures) and Bouke Visser of Split Second Sound. |
