| how many of us describe ourselves in the terms in which we'd like to be seen by others? in a rare attempt at honesty, i'm going to step outside of that box and say something real about myself. there is a middle-aged blind woman who walks around my neighborhood twice a day. she has a walking stick and nothing else - no dog, no companion. i describe myself as fearless but i could never imagine being that brave. i am envious of the time that the people that i care about spend without me. i am afraid of becoming a thrity-something hausfrau, mother-of-two who never accomplishes anything extraordinary. i'm moving to california soon, where i have no friends, and i'm scared to death. i change my mind more than is acceptable by any "normal" human being. i hate capital letters. i write so little lately i'm almost a hobbyist. i can't stand physical pain. i crunch ice religiously. i'm terrible at small talk because i just don't care about the plight of someone i may never see again. people usually don't like me until they've met me four or five times, because it takes me a while to open up. i haven't slept more than four consecutive hours since last december. |
