About Me |
|
| Classically trained in guitar, Abby earned her B.A. in Music at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama, and now teaches guitar privately at a college prep school and a studio. She began writing songs, however, long beforehand. Her musical journey began at age 12 when she received her first guitar as a birthday gift from her parents. She took a liking to it immediately, took some lessons, and then taught herself classical guitar until she graduated high school. She also grew up singing in school choirs and churches, and toured with a six-part a cappella group called Profile while attending Colorado Christian University in Colorado. About this time she began to write her own songs, something she had dreamed of doing since her childhood. Many of her songs are inspired by her personal relationship with God. John Michael Talbot, a classical guitarist and singer within the Christian community, was a great inspiration to her and her chief motivation to learn classical guitar. Since then, she has sung her own songs in churches, at private parties, and music venues in order to inspire and uplift.Abby Parks showcases her songwriting talent on her debut album MOVING ON, an interesting mix of folk, country, and pop. Lyrics of love, loss, and hope are set to moving tracks that embody her style--at times energetic and gritty, and at others, soothing and reflective. All tracks are supported by Abby’s classic guitar stamp--uniquely crafted finger-style accompaniment or driving acoustic rhythm guitar. One of her favorite stage memories was performing live on Danny Kyle’s Open Stage at Celtic Connections Festival 2000 in Glasgow, Scotland. She has performed at numerous musical venues since moving to Alabama including Java Jolt Coffeehouse, Starbucks, The Grind, Moonlight Music Café, Hubbards Next Door Coffee Shop, Java and Jams, Mimi’s and Janie’s Closet, Joe Muggs, and the Zannie Theater, as well as Mocha Match Coffee Bar and Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta. She also made three recent appearances on TV 24’s “Wake Up Alabama” to perform “Lorelei,” “Song of Magdalene,” and “Your Chantilly” for the morning show hosted by Cathy McGuirt. The debut album by Abby Parks features romantic lyrics set against a rich tapestry of folk and classical finger-style guitar. Sometimes reminiscent of the folk music of the early seventies, yet splashed with a sound all her own, Abby Parks’ album will leave you wanting more.Five Stars--Impressive Debut. Reviewer: Jason Bennett"This is a very impressive debut from an obviously gifted songwriter and guitarist. "Western Desert Sun" is about as close to a debut masterpiece as you will find. Textured landscapes of cactus, prairie wind and some fine, delicate guitar playing accompany Ms. Parks on a journey, which I am happy to say, is just beginning. Keep an eye on Abby, as it appears that her music will be around for a long time." www.bennettfolk.comYou can also buy downloads of the album MOVING ON at Itunes.com.
