About Me |
|
| this is what happened. it was june, early summer of '98. i had recently returned to tacoma---a friend was investing his life savings in a professional recording studio/record label, and had asked me to assist. but this weekend i was camping alone in mount rainier national park. i didn't sleep well because my feet were cold. so early saturday morning when the sun broke i headed out for a hike to get the blood pumping. as usual, i strayed off the path. it's a habit---there's a lot of beauty in that park, and you can find some really cool places where the crowds aren't. i walked thru the old-growth for awhile till i found a waterfall, then followed it upstream into the mountain. i was climbing over boulders thru rugged terrain, and as i rounded an outcrop, i encountered an incredibly beautiful lady coming back from the direction i was headed. we were both startled at running into someone so far off the beaten path, and at that early hour. we gave each other a friendly "good morning", and she told me of some difficulties to expect ahead. i thanked her and we each went on our way. it was a strange moment, like out of a movie. and it replayed in my mind thru the rest of the weekend. the next monday morning, i stopped for a mocha at a coffeeshop near my apartment in tacoma. and oddly enough, she was the barista behind the counter. she recognized me as well, and we made small talk as she prepared my drink. i mentioned the record label and asked if she knew of any good bands locally. she said, "my boyfriend and i have a band", and said she could get me a tape. i told her i would drop back by sometime and pick it up. one week later i went to the coffee shop to see if she had gotten a recording. she shook her head no, and told me she and her boyfriend, as well as the band, had broken up. i stopped by every few days, as she made good coffee and good conversation. we found we had a lot in common, and we became friends over the next several months. she occasionally mentioned some songs she was working on, and i told her she should swing by my apartment and let me hear them. one day in october she got up the nerve, and told me she would stop by with her guitar. she asked where i live, and we were both shocked to discover we lived in the same apartment complex, less than fifty yards apart. that afternoon she came to visit and brought her fender 12-string. again we were taken by surprise---her guitar was the exact same make and model as my 12-string guitar standing in the corner. within a few minutes, we had written a song. we've written, recorded and performed as narcotic lollipop since then. grandma caesar Narcotic Lollipop Rodent Label: Bipolar Audio Catalog Number: BPA-001 Producer: Grandma Caesar Distributor: Bipolar Audio Recording Type: 8-track analog 01 Better Now 02 Dying 03 Potential 04 Eating The Ground 05 What It Sounds Like 06 Charming 07 Messy Men 08 Tricked 09 Hard Press 10 Struttin 11 Careree 12 Hey!
