ABOUT THE COLUMN: Unlike far too many stereotypical depictions of the music industry offered by mainstream media, Rose Cora Perry's popular music insight and advice column, "So You Wanna Be in a Rock Band?" tells the blatant truth demolishing the distorted "overnight success" myths that remain pervasive in society. Too many artists have fallen victim to these delusions, and too many potentially great songwriters have been left jaded, empty and disillusioned after being spewed out of an industry clothed in a veil that appears to be supportive of new talent, but in reality, would rather earn easy revenue by perpetuating a cycle of sound-a-like artists. Based on both her personal experiences as a frontwoman of two successful independent Canadian rock projects, and as the owner and operator of her own independent record label, complimented by thorough research and interviews with industry veterans, the goal of Perry's column is to offer fellow artists something that she did not have; a realistic portrayal of what they are getting themselves into. Covering topics ranging from booking tours to marketing one's act to industry-related alternative sources of revenue to music scams to current trends, the driving force behind her column: is to educate, provoke thought, and hopefully teach others not to accept things, simply, at their face value. Originally published by Fanshawe College's The Interrobang ,(London, ON, CA), Rose Cora Perry's "So You Wanna be in a Rock Band?" is currently syndicated by CoverZone Magazine (Bristol, CT, USA), Alternative World FanZine (Los Angeles, CA, USA), Indie IN-TUNE Magazine (Epping, NH, USA) and Indie Music Project (Lansing, MI, USA) boosting a dedicated readership of over 100,000 per issue. Additionally, Perry's articles are available on several online blogging sites. Rose Cora Perry is always looking for suggestions for upcoming pieces, and would love to hear from YOU regarding your experiences in the industry.
