Shady’s back -- kind of. Although he’s got a few solo joints on Eminem Presents: The Re-Up, Eminem has said he put together the compilation/mixtape as a vehicle to showcase some of his new Shady Records artists.

And some very familiar names are present. 50 Cent makes a few appearances, as do Lloyd Banks, Obie Trice, Nate Dogg and members of D12. And although Eminem has said another project, not The Re-Up, will serve as a tribute to slain rapper Proof, the MC’s untimely death clearly weighs heavily on their minds.

Eminem, who’s been largely absent from the public eye, took a lead role in putting together the set, producing the majority of the songs, with the Alchemist pitching in on a few tracks and compiling the whole thing into mixtape shape.

50 Cent duets with Eminem on the title track, throwing a few jabs at the Game in his verses. The G-Unit general pops up again on "You Don’t Know," Em’s remix of "Ski Mask Way" and "Jimmy Crack Corn." A fierce, revitalized Eminem rides solo on "No Apologies" and "Public Enemy ..1." Obie Trice tells MTV News he recorded the "Pistol Pistol" remix "after I was shot on New Year’s Eve of last year. I felt like I wanted to vent. D12 was in the studio with me. Proof was there. They was letting me go for it. I was doing my thing. I just wanted to express myself. It’s a lot of haterism going on here, ’cause there ain’t that many stars here in Detroit." Atlanta’s Stat Quo (who appears on "By My Side," "Tryin’ Ta Win" and "Get Low," among other tracks) was invited into the Shady family after Em and Dr. Dre heard him on an underground Atlanta mixtape, while the ATL’s Bobby Creekwater ("There He Is," "Smack That" remix) got his deal after Em heard his work on some demos and studio sessions with Alchemist. Chicago native Ca$his ("Talkin’ All That," "We Ride for Shady"), who moved to Orange County, California, as a kid, came to Em’s attention thanks to his work with West Coast underground group The Renegadez. Ca$his says he put down rhymes for "Everything Is Shady" the day after Proof’s funeral. "I was feeling like I was listening to how everybody was saying our camp was puttin’ out flops," Ca$his recalled. "Like the hook say, ’We took a break for a minute, now we bangin’/ We been listening to every thing you been sayin’/ And now we comin’ for everybody who been hatin’.’ I sent it to Eminem and he was feelin’ it."-- provided by MTV News

Obie Trice (born November 14, 1977 in Detroit, Michigan) began rapping at the age of 11 and had a number of underground hits such as "Respect", "My Club", "Dope Jobs Homeless", and "The Well Known Asshole" before he signed to Shady Records in 2000.

As an acquaintance of D12 member Bizarre, Obie was signed after a personal introduction to Eminem allowed him to impress the Detroit rap legend in-person. The general public were first introduced to Obie on D12’s Devil’s Night album on a skit. His one-line opener on Eminem’s lead single, "Without Me", off the critically-acclaimed and commercially successful The Eminem Show increased public awareness of his name and slogan. Appearances on DJ Green Lantern’s official Shady Records Invasion mixtape series, allowed him to further his public recognition.

In 2002, Trice appeared in 8 Mile as one of the rappers in the Chin Tiki parking lot scene. Trice also has a featured appearance as Big Pimpin’ in the Detroit made independent feature film Life Goes On, which premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2006.

His debut album Cheers was released on September 23, 2003 with its first single "Got Some Teeth" being well received on radio in a number of countries. He also released the songs "Don’t Come Down" and "The Set Up". The album consists of 17 tracks with production from Eminem, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Mike Elizondo, Emile, Fredwreck and Denaun Porter. Artists featuring on Cheers include Eminem, Dr. Dre, D12, Busta Rhymes and Nate Dogg among others. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA.

On December 31, 2005, Trice was shot twice while driving on the Lodge Expressway by Wyoming Avenue in Detroit. One of the bullets entered his head. Trice was able to drive off the expressway, where his girlfriend waved down police. He was taken to Providence Hospital and released later that day. Doctors are still contemplating whether or not to remove the bullet which entered his head, as it may be too dangerous to operate.

Obie Trice and Akon recently appeared on the crime-drama CSI, in a party scene performing their single "Snitch". Another Obie Trice single "Wanna Know" was featured on the soundtrack to EA Sports Fight Night Round 3. "Wanna Know" was also featured in the first few seconds of HBO original series Entourage; the track can be heard in the first scene, last scene and closing credits of season 2 episode 7, "The Sundance Kids". HBO reused "Wanna Know" in two teasers for Entourage’s third season.

Shortly after his friend and label-mate Proof was shot to death in a Detroit nightclub, a song emerged on the mixtape circuit called "Ride Wit Me". The song was dedicated to Proof. Trice, having nearly been fatally shot himself, made a speech at Proof’s funeral, addressing the problem of black-on-black violence:

"I want to talk to the black men in here that’s coming up in the ’hood, coming up in the struggle. We’re killing each other, dog. And it’s about nothing. Nothing. Nothing. We’re all dying… over nothing."

His second album, titled Second Round’s On Me, was released on August 15, 2006.
