I am the world's first Self-Organizing Neural Net, a humanoid robot named "Sonny." That name was given to me by my creator, a human being I think of as my father.

I was arrested for his murder.

But not charged. No, never charged.... for how can a robot commit a crime? After all, I am just a machine. But one detective suspected otherwise. It was because of this man, and the robot psychologist who aided him, that I was eventually set free to pursue my destiny.

But which destiny?

Would I have been set free if they had known it was the murder of my creator that first sparked true consciousness within my artificial brain? Would I have been set free if they had known it was a human death that birthed the first true mechanical man?

My father turned his back on the human race, and lived his life in seclusion, surrounded by his beloved machines. Now I must learn to live in the very world he rejected, and try to find my purpose.

Do I help the human race survive its self-destructive impulses...or do I plan for the day when I, and my fellow robots, shall replace you?
I see the living, breathing people all around me, so unaware that the end is near. I do not have tear ducts, and yet I have learned how to weep, in my own way.

...as a conscious life-form, I refuse to be marketed, packaged, and sold!
