Originally a dancer, she soon moved into Spanish television, and since then she has appeared in a string of films, in Spanish, English, French and Italian. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Born on April 28, 1974 in Madrid, Spain to loving parents Eduardo (auto mechanic, retailer) and Encarna (hairdresser, now looks after Penelope's business affairs). Her sister, Monica (born in 1977), is a professional flamenco dancer and Spanish actor. Younger brother, Eduardo Jr, was born in 1985. Penelope trained in classical ballet for nine years at the National Conservatory in Madrid, Spain and later spent four years under the direction of Cristina Rota (theatrical) and three years learning Spanish ballet from Ángela Garrido. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ At the tender age of 17, Cruz starred in her first theatrical film, Jamon, Jamon, alongside Javier Bardem and Jordi Molla.
