| We officially changed our name to TheColorGray http://www.myspace.com/thecolorgray Redtag is a “straight ahead rock” band, formed in 2002 when drummer Cason Clifton heard singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Hawkes “jamming” down the hall. He stepped into the room, borrowed a neighbor’s kit, and was immediately asked to join Redtag. Though only consisting of Chris and Cason now, Redtag began as a group of high school friends: Ben Drake, Daniel Lofflin, Chris Hawkes, and Aaron Cauble. They began by playing Chris’s tunes and some covers in their hometown of Arlington. When geographic separation caused the band to split, Redtag needed a certain reformation in order to continue in their direction. Cason Clifton, a percussionist performance major at UNT, was the perfect choice for drums. The best part of being part of Redtag, says Cason, is “meeting fans and other bands, and striving for a solid sound and feel.” Chris, the band’s frontman, enjoys “working the crowd and sharing the stage with great bands.” Both look forward to building a strong following, playing more shows, and recording a well-produced album. Individually, Chris plans to “enjoy every show to the fullest and make it to the top.” Cason hopes to use his UNT music degree to “share knowledge of the art through performance and education.” The band cites as its influences Fuel, 311, Led Zeppelin, and STP--music with “hard active guitar, vocals with melody, and driving rhythms.” When not performing, Cason and Chris attend local shows for inspiration. They also enjoy off-roading, Taco Bueno, and Denton Culture.Cason and Chris met Jake Baxter, a fellow UNT student, while searching for a bassist in January 04' and after playing several shows asked him to join. |
