Southern California based OPM is back and released an EP titled In the OPM DEN on June 18th 2006. On July 18, 2006 their third full-length album appropriately titled California Poppy dropped on the highly influential underground label Suburban Noize Records. California Poppy is OPM's third full length album and is by far the most raw and live-sounding of the three. The album was produced solely by john e. and Geoff at MNO, their studio located in the heart of Hollywood. "We produced this record in a more traditional style compared to our last two records, which primarily started as programmed beats and then evolved into songs." John e. explains. Geoff adds, "Now that our live unit is as tight as it's ever been, recording live instruments worked for this record. We've had several different line-ups over the years, but not one with the chemistry we have now." OPM's first album, Menace to Sobriety, was released by Atlantic records. It was this album that dawned the international skateboarder's anthem, "Heaven is a Halfpipe." The song reached the no. 1 most requested on LAs KROQ and no. 1 Nationwide Top phones. It also charted at no. 3 in the UK and remained in the Top 5 for over two months. "Heaven is a Halfpipe" won the highly acclaimed Kerrang "Single of the Year" award. Following this, For Them Asses was released on Suburban Noize Records. California Poppy is OPM's second full-length record for Suburban Noize. John e. explains why Suburban Noize Records works so well for OPM. "We really love the creative freedom we have by being with Suburban Noize. Atlantic was just the opposite; we were told what to do on so many levels it was ultimately not creatively rewarding, which makes for a very unnatural process. Our goal is to create music that people enjoy, including us. At Suburban Noize, we have total independence. Also, there is a community among the artists as opposed to the major label political hierarchy. They allow artist development to happen naturally by taking the time to plant seeds and grow roots." OPM has sold over One Million Units around the world. California Poppy is a record that takes OPM back to their roots. Rooted in California, the band takes pride in what has influenced their lifestyle and music. Local artists like Sublime, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Janes Addiction, No Doubt and NWA have had a huge impact on their sound. The album features: Daddy X from Kottonmouth Kings, Kaleo from Pepper, Jared & DJ Product of Hed PE, Jim from Dumbluck and reggae legend Yellowman!.
