An amazing Palace Design Hotel in Cannes is taken over by the extraordinary artists of Strychnin Gallery for an exciting weekend, a gallery that is the talk of the town with its venues in London, New York and Berlin. Now open them: this is the dream that the 3.14 Hotel’s creative director Dani Morla and Strychnin Gallery owner Yasha Young are making come true in Cannes on March 7th, 2008. For an entire weekend, the 3.14 Hotel will host what is going to be an amazing event: 20 artists and 15 musicians and DJs from five continents will take over the hotel true to the FUSION 5 FESTIVAL spirit.

The 3.14 is a unique universe, touching everyone who comes into contact with it. This is the special accomplishment of its two designers, Karine Ellena Partouche and her sister Alexandra Ellena. Being daughters of a long distance airline pilot, they had always wanted to gather all those different atmospheres which shaped them through the years in one special, unique place: perfumes, objects, colors, music and all the flavors of the world. With the 3.14 Hotel, they have finally made their dream come true. You’ll find an opulent mixture between Bollywood, Boudoir, Pop and Zen. Welcomed by parrots, you’ll enter a world dedicated to the five continents, furnished according to the rules of Feng-Shui. Asia is presented as the kingdom of the sun, while America is shown from its creative and exceptional side, Africa depicts the deserts, Oceania points to far-away islands, and Europe is represented through Paris and the belle époque.

Le 3.14 hôtel est un univers unique qui ne laisse personne indifférent. C’est l’accomplissement de ses deux créatrices, Karine Ellena Partouche et sa soeur Alexandra Ellena. Filles d’un pilote long courrier, elles ont toujours souhaité assembler toutes les différentes atmosphères, dont elles se sont imprégnées durant leur enfance, en un endroit unique : parfums, objets, couleurs, musique et toutes les saveurs du monde. Avec le 3.14 Hôtel, elles ont réalisées leur rêve. Vous découvrirez une généreuse mosaïque d’univers inspirée de Bollywood, de l’esprit cocon Boudoir savamment mixée avec une touche de Pop et Zen. Accueilli par les inséparables perruches, vous pénétrerez dans un monde dédié aux cinq continents, dont les matériaux s’accordent et s’articulent selon les rites du Feng Shui. L’Asie est représentée tel l’empire du soleil levant, l’Amérique dévoile son aspect Pop Art le plus créatif, l’Afrique illustre les portes du désert, l’Océanie symbolise la perle des îles lointaines, et l’Europe revisite Paris et La Belle Epoque.

Strychnin is dedicated to presenting young emerging international artists to an international audience.

Our shows in London, Berlin and New York feature a variety of artists with individual styles rather than artists belonging to one collective ‘fashionable’ movement. Founded in Brooklyn in 1998, a second gallery followed in Berlin in 2002 and a third in London in October 2007: Strychnin joined Brick Lane’s vibrant art scene. Ranging from painting to sculpture, photography to doll-making, Strychnin presents the extraordinary and unique: the beautiful, the sublime, the grotesque, the peculiar and comical. Featured works are suffused by popular culture – comics, TV, Sci-Fi, Google, film noir – and are thus highly accessible, yet they are inspired by ‘high art.’ The works pay homage to the Baroque, to medieval hagiography, and the Renaissance among others. Strychnin blurs distinctions and plays with pre-existing notions; the resulting contradictions cannot easily be resolved. Ultimately, Strychnin is more about a personal feeling than a universal claim. Strychnin cherishes the individual, both artist and viewer, and thrives on the contradictions we all carry with us.

Strychnin se consacre à la présentation de jeunes artistes émergents internationaux à un public international.

Nos démonstrations à Londres, Berlin et New York se distinguent par la diversité des artistes qui se reconnaissent soit d’un mouvement individuel, soit d’un mouvement collectif en vogue. Fondée à Brooklyn en 1998, suivie d’une seconde galerie à Berlin en 2002, et une troisième inaugurée en octobre 2007 : Strychnin s’apprête à rejoindre la palpitante scène artistique de Brick Lane à Londres. De la peinture à la sculpture, de la photographie à la confection de poupées, Strychnin révèle l’extraordinaire et l’unique : le Beau, le sublime, le grotesque, l’atypique et le comique. Les objets représentés émanent de la culture populaire – bandes dessinées, télévision, science fi ction, google, fi lm noir – et sont par conséquent largement accessibles, ils sont déjà inspirés du « Grand Art » Les oeuvres rendent hommage à l’art Baroque, à la hagiographie médiévale et entre autre à la Renaissance. Strychnin trouble les distinctions et joue avec les notions pré existantes ; les contradictions résultantes ne peuvent pas être facilement résolues. Dans l’absolu, Strychnin se projette plus dans la sensation personnelle que dans l’affi rmation universelle. Strychnin se dévoue à l’individualité, autant pour les artistes que pour le spectateur et s’enrichie de toutes les contradictions que nous portons en nous.
