Auditoria The Dr Anton Philipszaal and the Lucent Danstheater on Spuiplein in The Hague offer a large and varied number of dance performances, classical concerts, jazz concerts, operas, family shows and musicals. The resident companies, the Residentie Orchestra and the Nederlands Dans Theater, have a prominent place in our programme. Their repertoire, the permanent and guest conductors and choreographers guarantee concerts and performances of world calibre. Some of the classical concerts take place in the intimate and acoustically modified Nieuwe Kerk opposite the theatre on the other side of Spuiplein. Dr Anton Philipszaal The Philipszaal was built in 1987 by the architects Dick van Mourik and Peter Vermeulen. It is a concert hall built by and for musicians with unique acoustics under a starry heaven of 420 lights. The various foyers look out onto The Hague’s cultural square. Lucent Danstheater The Lucent Danstheater was built at the same time to a design by the architect Rem Koolhaas, thus confirming his international reputation. It is a special building, full of architectural inventiveness, like the waved roof of the theatre, the futuristic sky bar and the unusually shaped foyers, while the stylish auditorium’s sobriety focuses all attention on the stage. Nieuwe Kerk The Nieuwe Kerk was built in 1649 by carpenter Pieter Noorwits, after the Grote Kerk had become too small. Construction was completed in 1656. The Nieuwe Kerk in 1969 closed and after a long restoration was reopened as concert room and exclusive event location. |
