ALBUM COMING MAY 2008, DOWNLOADS COMING SOON.Mellokie is a multi-talented artist who boasts the ability to sing, rap and write her own material. Growing up on the northside of the still segregated city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mellokie was forced to overcome both personal and external struggles at an early age becoming connected with her double conscious and an understanding of the world. As the youngest of five brothers and sisters, Mellokie started to express herself artistically as a little girl through songs, stories and poetry. Lethal with a pen, she was awarded Young Authors of America, and a member of Poet Societies. When she was in middle school, she decided to put a rhythm behind her poems. In high school writing got her into the studio and she started recorded some of her first songs. They were more like mix tape songs written to an established beat but all original lyrics. By the time Mellokie started attending Booker T. Washington high school she was creating all original material. She always makes it an issue to address real live situations and takes pleasure in dwelling outside of the normal box. Mellokie is more than a name, it is a feeling as well as a unique sound.
