| The Kelley Nelson Band is an up-and-coming bluegrass band consisting of five members: Kelley Nelson - vocals; Tim Mullins - guitar; John Vandiver - mandolin/lead and background vocals; Will Wright - bass/background vocals; and Kris Rasnake - banjo.The Kelley Nelson Band was formed in 2008 when Kelley, along with her husband, Tim, were introduced to John through a mutual friend. Kelley had been doing some studio work without a full time band and John had been looking for a full time band to play with. Even at their first meeting they
knew that together they had the drive, the talent, and the desire to become what would be the core of The Kelley Nelson Band. John and Kelley both
possess stellar song writing abilities, but when you add to that John's uncanny and unique mandolin style, success was well within grasp. After a few months of playing together the trio played their first show. Things went very well, but they knew that something was lacking. Soon after they added stand-up bassist, Will Wright to their lineup. Will quickly showed that although new to the bass he was a fast learner, a dedicated musician and a vocalist as well. After that the three became four and the search for a new kind of drive began. The group would practice and continue to book shows in the hope that they would soon add a banjo player to their mix. It wasn't long before those wishes were fulfilled when Kris Rasnake joined the group.The five have brought to the table a myriad of individual talents and goals. Every day they are learning from each other, they are evolving to different styles and sounds that they hope will carve for them their own niche in bluegrass music. With Kelley's traditional roots and sugar-sweet vocals, John's raw but smooth songwriting and playing ability, Kris' hard-driving banjo, Will's tempo-holding bass, and Tim's steady and consistant guitar, this group has the ability to achieve the goals that they all have: To become a bluegrass group unlike any other.
