Books:Currently, Bill Bryson's "A Brief History of Nearly Everything." A lot of my reading time lately has been taken up with research, things that most would find dull. But here are few books that have influenced me at various times in my life:Pirsig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcyle Maintenance" when I was 20, Allen Ginsburg's "Howl," Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment," "The Idiot," and "The Brothers Karamazov, " T. S. Elliot's poetry, Thoreau, Coleridge, Nelson Algren, Lermontov's "A Hero of Our Time, " Nikolai Dezhnev's "In Concert Performance"... As a boy, Tolkien was a favorite.....DRIVING IN HOMETOWN PARADE.. This is a 1928 Model A Ford Flatbed that was once abandoned and rusting behind a friend's barn. I spent countless hours sanding and prepping it, starting when I was 13 or 14. Somehow, we ended up slotted with antique farm machinery in the hometown parade in Perry, Iowa. But, back in the day, that was probably the truck's primary function. .. ..> .. |
